Hi everyone! I got a huge packet from my nursing school today!! I was going through everything, and I am kinda at a loss as what to do for my physical. I do not have a doctor, or health insurance. The only doctors I have ever had were my ped. and my ob/gyn when I had my son. So, who do I go to? Can I just get a regular physical at a walk-in clinic?
Also, in this packet it gives the name of a book to order for school, and says to have the first 10 chapters read by the first day of class!!
Ouch! :)
Hey again! Well, I checked with my school, and they do require us to have insurance! But, they have a plan for us and it is around $500/year, but they just tack it on to tuition! So, I will have health insurance, but it dosen't start until August. I am going to call the health department today, and call some walk-in clinics!!
Thanks again for all the advice!
My last clinical rotation was at a free clinic . . . anyone was allowed who didn't have health insurance or medicaid, and we did school physicals for kids. See if you can find something like that in your area. It wouldn't cover lab work but we did the assessments, urinalysis, eye exams, iron & glucose checks, so that would cover most of it.

Hey I need to have my physical titres/immunizations done as well before my August NS start date. Please satisfy my curiosity---just what is a titre?
"Antibody titer is a laboratory test that measures the presence and amount of antibodies in blood. The antibody level in the blood is a reflection of your past exposure to an antigen or to something that the body does not recognize as belonging to itself. The body uses antibodies to attack and remove foreign substances."

So when they do a titer, they are making sure you actually have enough antibodies in your blood to provide immunity to measles, varicella, etc.

Your college/university might have automatic health insurance for you once you start. You should ask, or look at your fees breakdown.
At my university, we are automatically charged around $200 per year for health and dental insurance. If you already have your own through work/parents/spouse, you then have to show proof, and they refund your money.
