For a little over a year now I've been a practicing RN on a purely postoperative floor.
What phase am I in now?
For starters I don't have huge anxiety before work as I once did. Now I have more of a minor internal attitude/moodiness because I know somewhat what to expect. Call lights after call lights. Residents putting in incorrect orders like it's gonna run outta style. Upset family members because they didn't get a lunch tray *gasp* *How dare I forget blankets and snacks for family*.
I also feel happy about work sometimes. Mostly AFTER my shifts or after about 2PM. I feel so darn moody in the morning. The lack of sleeping hours is a killer for me. Sometimes and the majority of the time I find work to be an evil necessity.
I feel confident but weary and cautious and I still ask questions EVERY day.
My agility and efficiency has improved. Usually I'll be done with charting and meds around 845am to 930am.
I think it may be a huge possibility that I'm over the toughest hump of being a new grad (isn't it like 6 to 9 months?). I'm about on my 14th month.
I know I have a lot to learn. I still suck at setting up NGT tubes. Lol. I hateeeee infusing blood but know how. Hahaha. Sometimes it takes me a good few seconds of pause time of looking at labs and vitals to connect dots and anticipate orders and plan of care and maybe even discuss plan of care with residents.
