Hi everyone, i would like to send my message out in hopes of getting some recommendations on great places to live and work in Oregon. I have never been and thought i would start with this discussion board to research good communities.
What is important to me above all in choosing a place to work is a definite preference for smaller, reputably safe communities as i would be relocating with my family and this is priority #1. I love the outdoors so access to the forests and mountains are definitely a plus also. I would of course be looking for an area that is affordable and reasonably priced in terms of accommodation if there is such a thing!

I was born in Coos Bay, but my family is from Portland. We're looking at relocating to OR in the next two years. I can't wait to get home! Virginia isn't bad, but my heart's in Oregon, you know? You know.

Corvallis is a great city! We moved here from Florida after finding it on a website called "findyourspot.com" - fill out surveys of what you like and it comes up with a list. The city is compact - only takes 5-10 minutes to get any where. Schools for kids are great, crime is super low. Downtown is groovy, lots of festivals and things for kids to do. The hospital in Corvallis is Good Samaritan - a level 2 trauma center with a busy cardiology practices. The hospital is undergoing renovations to expand the number of beds, so the need for staff will continue to grow. The staff was great to me there as a travel nurse - so much so that we stayed. Corvallis totally rocks for my family- 4 kids age 10-15.

CORVALLIS!!!
Corvallis is a medium sized city with no traffic, low crime, tons of things for kids and families to enjoy. Schools are outstanding. There is a University here so lots of cultural events, lots of great local produce at the Saturday Market. Very bike friendly. We moved from Florida a year ago and I wish we had done it 10 years ago. The hospital is expanding and will need more nurses - great medical care and busy units for the size of the hospital.

Are there tattoo shops there? My husband is a tattoo artist, so we'd have to find employment for him as well. Thanks for the link!
I don't know Corvalis well enough to comment on the state of the tattoo shops, but considering that it seems you can't live in Oregon w/o being inked or pierced, and that it has a large student population, I imagine so.

He may want to be sure he's up on local regs though -- I know we have some of the strictest laws for massage therapists, wouldn't be surprise if that was the case for tattoo artists too.
Thanks!! Yeah, I've checked out the regulations -- they're very similar to Virginia's tattoo regs. The only difference (which my husband actually thought was great!) was that Oregon tattoo artists are required to get about 20 hours of continuing ed every two years. :) They are pretty strict in both states, though -- which is a good thing!

I have to say I love Portland. It is big, but it really has a small town feel. Any of the cities in the Willamette Valley are close to forest and mountains. Eugene is also very laid back nice area.
My family and I are getting ready to move to the bend Oregon area within the next 8 months. Can anyone tell me how the job situation is for an LPN in LTC. How hard or easy is it to find a job in Bend. And does anyone know what the facilities are like, patient work load etc.....:typing
