Thanks, sounds like a good opportunity for males, as all of nursing is

I'm not an NP yet, but I'm 100% male :smokin:

In my class of 2008 of about 21, two guys (~10%)

Locally (within 100 mile radius) about 7 NPs, 1 guy (14%)

Specializes in TELE / ER/PACU/ICU.

Is there any advantage to being a male NP?

Many told me along the way to becoming an RN that advantages exist [being male], but they never materialized. Instead I get called for the heavy work and get the combative patients.

Yep I remember those days:

-Called to other floors to help with the big patients or ones that had fallen.

-Large male patients

-Combative patients

-Prisoners

-I was the one who had to grab the fire extinguisher and run to other floors for the fire drills

-Call the doctor in middle of the night be of the he factor...

I guess one factor it helped: Yell in my face and see what you get
