I am about to graduate with my ADN from another state, and I was wondering what it would be like if I wanted to move to Las Vegas. How is the market, are they in need for more RNs? What is a starting wage one would expect? How are the hospitals, low patient to nurse ratios? Thanks for any information and/or tips!
I graduated December 2010 and began applying after taking NCLEX in April (took a long break after going through an 11-month Accelerated BSN program). I was offerred two interviews at different hospitals the same day I applied. I chose a hospital and I began the new grad program 4 weeks ago and there were about 30 other new grads in the program. Some of the new grads said this is their first RN job since graduating in 2009 so I'm assuming Vegas is a tough market even if they say there's a nursing shortage. There are many RN positions posted but most require at least 1 year of experience. I feel lucky that I didn't have to wait over a year to get a job here. Try applying first before moving... there are hospitals that help with relocating. Good luck!
Apply to Kindred hospital system as well. Make sure you at least have a BLS american heart association certification. Letters of reference. 3 at least. If you speak a second language make this stand out. I highly recommend interviewing and securing a position before actually physically moving. Some are hiring but the competition is fierce. I would imagine you have to have a phenominal back ground for anyone to pay for relocation. Confirm all before making an expensive move that may leave you unemployed for an undefined amount of time. All the best.
SECURE A INTERVIEW AND JOB BEFORE MOVING. Keep in mind that hiring new grads can mean from a Nevada nursing school. You finished nursing school. You passed the NCLEX. You are smart. Play it smart during the entire relocation and hiring process. I know the nursing road can be torture from begining to end.
I agree! I have applied at various hospitals here in Las Vegas, and it took two years for me to even go on an interview, and I have been a CNA for 19 years with hospital experience. It is extremely hard to secure a position here experience or not, In my opinion stay away from this place!.

The job market here in Vegas really sucks. I became a CNA May of 2010 and have yet to find a job. Not 1 place will hire me because I have no experience (other than clinical's). Any jobs market out here is horrible it doesn't matter what field of work you are in..
