For a short time 20 years ago I cut hair, I consider myself a "people person". I also worked as a medical assistant (certified ophthamic assistant to eye surgeons, and Lasik technician) for 13-14 years so this helped me feel more comfortable (a little) as a new grad because of previous experience interacting with doctors and patients.
Just curious what other jobs you did before going into the nursing field? Do you think your previous experiences help you now?
Newspaper delivery (ages 11-17)
Cashier at Rich's (not the one that became Macy's)
Factory worker (Plastic cutlery)
Office temp
Maid at a nice hotel in the Berkshires. (My co-workers were uneducated but nice. The customers were a nightmare.)
Sub shop worker (for 2 weeks)
Domino's shift lead
Campus Computer Tech
Factory worker (furniture)
Office temp again
Peetnik/Barista
Customer service rep for a food delivery service (for 7 years)
I got my first nuring job at 32.
Ticket taker and kiddie games at a minor league baseball stadium.
Banquet server / beertender and eventually concessions manager at the same baseball stadium.
Concessions manager/supervisor at two NFL stadiums and a major convention center.
High school athletic trainer.
Bartender at BWWs.
Needless to say the customer service part of nursing school has been a breeze.
Not quite a nurse yet, but I've worked in restaurants (every job but management, nooo waaay to that, lol) most of my working life. I have always trained horses and gave riding lessons on the side up until about two years ago. Equine massage as well. Loved horse training, would do it for the rest of my life if there was any real money in it. Unfortunately, I require a roof over my head and food in the belly so I had to make a change.
