What are job prospects for new ADN grad in Phoenix?

U.S.A. Arizona

Published

Do most Arizona jobs require BSN degree? Or, might I have decent job prospects as entry-level RN with only ADN degree? Due to night shift availability, I am most interested in hospital employment...I am a mother of 2 young kids.

(I am currently a lawyer and am looking at nursing as a second career. I will quit my job once I begin accelerated (18 month) nursing program. Due to the end to my income stream while in school, I need to begin work as soon as possible as an RN...and then will get BSN online while working as RN....that is unless I hear that I will be unemployable as an entry level RN with only ADN degree.)

Insights are greatly appreciated!:o Thanks in advance!

I don't know if it helps at all but I have heard from my current instructors that jobs are SLOWLY opening up. As difficult as it is HANG in there. You may want to check with the VA here in Phoenix. If you, a spouse or close family member was a vet you get higher priority in the process. It is something small but it is something. Best of luck. All of us current students are rooting for you to get a job too. :D

Don't give up! That is the first thing I wanted to say lol. I work for a Phoenix area hospital and they won't hire me either because of my new grad status. They all say, come back when you have 6 months or more. It sucks because I have been here almost 5 years.

That said, I took a day and went out and applied in person at nursing homes, LTC and Assisted Living facilities. It was a long day due to the traveling etc. I made a list based on the phone book, websites etc. I did my research before I went out. I had a packet with a resume, cover letter and list of references. I got called back for an interview the next day and they offered me a spot at an Assisted Living facility. Sometimes they have to see you.

I got nothing but rejections from hospitals and a few even sent me emails saying please get 6 months experience and come back. Its the training of New Grads that they just can't handle right now it seems. Apply for places like the prisons, county jails, the Indian Medical Hospital etc. Also if you are good at networking, Ive been hearing that it is who you know, not what you know, although that has not worked for me.

Good luck!
