What Info Can State Give??

Nurses General Nursing

I was wondering what info the Community Health Dept. at the state can give a prospective employer when they call to check on your license.....besides that your license is suspended or inactive.

I was on orientation and missed 2 days for very legitimate reasons (dont usually miss any days) and the DON said it wouldnt work out. She thought I would miss in the future and leave the unit with no nurse (they have only one nurse for 29 ltc pts) I didnt do that when i missed because there was the regular nurse on who works alone every day.(besides the aides)

I told her i was uncomfortable with 29 pts and that i would never leave a unit with no nurse. So, we sort of both agreed that it wouldnt work.

I was dissappointed that she didnt at least talk to me instead of making a quick decision and assuming I would leave them with no nurse. I have never and would never do that!!

I was wondering if that gets reported to the state as me being fired, and if so, can I do anything about it? It was unfair and looks bad.

I wonder if any other employer could find that out and have a negative opinion of my nursing employment. Anyone know?

Community Health Dept has nothing to do with licenses as being a nurse. It is the Board of Nursing that has control over licenses, and the only information that can be looked up is if the person holds a current license. Nothing more than that.

There will be nothing showing up with the state, you did not do anything wrong.

Best of luck to you.

It must depend on the state you live/work in. In MN, it will state on the BON website if the nurse has a restricted license and all i have to do is call them and tell them I want to view what is written and they email it to me. Some of the things i have seen are only 10-20 pgs long, while others have been over 100 pgs.

I also know in WI it will state whether the license is restricted or not.
