  1. So, they cant reveal if someone was fired? Thank You. I feel better.
  2. I was wondering what info the Community Health Dept. at the state can give a prospective employer when they call to check on your license.....besides that your license is suspended or inactive. I was on orientation and missed 2 days for very legitimate reasons (dont usually miss any days) and the DON said it wouldnt work out. She thought I would miss in the future and leave the unit with no nurse (they have only one nurse for 29 ltc pts) I didnt do that when i missed because there was the regular nurse on who works alone every day.(besides the aides) I told her i was uncomfortable with 29 pts and that i would never leave a unit with no nurse. So, we sort of both agreed that it wouldnt work. I was dissappointed that she didnt at least talk to me instead of making a quick decision and assuming I would leave them with no nurse. I have never and would never do that!! I was wondering if that gets reported to the state as me being fired, and if so, can I do anything about it? It was unfair and looks bad. I wonder if any other employer could find that out and have a negative opinion of my nursing employment. Anyone know?
  3. Hello. I am going on an interview today for a home care agency. Have never worked home care. What are the main questions I should ask about the agency/work, etc. that are important to know before I start? I really appreciate your response!! Thanks...................jan
  4. Cant figure out why the ratio of nurse to pt on a rehab unit at a LTC facility is 1:17 and when I did a clinical rotation at a hospital on a rehab unit it is no more than 1:5. The pts were no more acute at the hospital. Do you think 1:17 is unsafe on a fast paced rehab unit? They seem to get their work done (eventually) and everyone is supportive of eachother. I am in orientation and need to decide if I can handle it after being out of nsg for many years. thanks, janet
  5. Thanks for your response! I do believe "my" job is out there and I cant settle for something I really dont like cuz I hate that feeling of dreading the thought of going into work. Good luck to you in finding the right job for you............janet
  6. I am an RN considering taking a job in couplet care. I have worked just nursery before, but not postpartum. I'm a little nervous about p.p. What are the main pt.complications/emergencies that can occur on the postpartum unit and how should the nurse react? What skills does the RN need? Thanks..jan:heartbeat
  7. Thank you so much. I've decided to follow yours and the others advice and skip it!! I just got my license back after letting it lapse while raising my kids (had to take boards over!!) and I'm not about to risk it like that!! have a good day. Janet
  8. Have to let them know tomorrow!!! What is it like to work sub-acute rehab? I heard it is fast paced. Isn't 12-15 pts a lot for this unit for one nurse and 1 aide? That is how they staff at this sub acute floor in a nursing home I am considering working at. They have up to 45 pts with 3 nurses on days and 3 aides. Not sure what to do????? What is ok staffing for this unit?? Thanks.........jan
  9. I noticed they are advertising for aides for every shift, so they are down. I just dont want to get stuck doing aide work as well as my own. Seems like there should be at least 2 aides for 20-22 residents
  10. Does anyone know of a good home care agency to work for in the Troy/Bloomfield/Rochester area of Michigan? There are so many, and its confusing as to which ones are good to work for. thanks....jan
  11. I am considering a position at a LTC as an RN. I have to let them know this week.........The staffing ratio is one nurse for 20-22 residents on days with 3 aides for 66 residents (three nurses). Is that standard staffing or scary staffing? Jan
  12. Can anyone tell me what it's like to work subacute rehab? What is a decent nurse/pt ratio? What skills must the RN have? I am considering a part time day job in this area. Just finished an RN refresher program and did my clinical on a rehab floor in a hospital, with pts having MS, brain injuries, stroke, renal failure, spinal cord injuries,etc.. Need to decide soon, so any comments are appreciated. Thanks, Janet
  13. I am considering taking a job at a LTC facility as an RN, but I am reading these horror stories from nurses and now i am unsure about working LTC. I havent read about any nurse that actually liked the ltc she/he was working at. ARE THERE ANY??? I have been out of nursing for a long time and was told this would be a good place to start if I am not ready for the hospital floors. Anyone have advice on working LTC? Is it a bad idea if i havent worked in a long time? thanks........janet
  14. I thought there was a nursing shortage. Maybe it is my situation. I graduated with a BSN in 1977, worked for a while, then raised my kids. I let my license lapse too long. Was told I Had to retake NCLEX!! Well, was determined to get my license back, so I studied for about a year constantly. I took it in july 07 and passed in 70 questions! I hope this doesnt sound braggy, but I am really proud that I did it. Then, I enrolled in an RN refresher program through Michigan State Univ. and got a certificate for that. NOw, I cant find a job!! Sure, there are midnight jobs, but I am 50 yrs old (a young 50) and I did the midnight thing years ago. NO CAN DO!! Everything else wants a year of med surg first, but I cant even find that on afternoons or days. Any suggestions?? Thanks, Jan
