What Illinois colleges are less competitive for getting into nursing school?

Published

Does anyone know the actual averages of gpas of Illinois nursing schools and not just what it may say as their minimum gpa on each website? I need to apply to some schools and not sure which ones are easier or harder to get into. Any help is much appreciated! Private and non-private schools too. Thanks!!!!!!! :)

Some of the community colleges don't look at GPA, they focus on test scores. I know Oakton does that. Also, try Chamberlain, I know it says their minimum GPA is 2.75 and I know people who have gotten in with that GPA.

I can tell you that Illinois valley community college requires a 2.75 GPA, but the lowest i've ever heard of getting in was 3.0 and that was by taking nearly every science class offered.

Can you try retaking some classes to boost your GPA? or taking a CNA class which is worth quite a few credit hours, and is easy to get an A in?

Also, I applied at methodist in peoria and they only looked at the GPA for the classes that were actually required for the program. And as an example, for humanities, i had 4 classes, they used the class i got an A in to compute my GPA for acceptance(this helped me out b/c i had quite a few C's from when i first started attending college with no idea what i wanted to do)

Another awesome thing about them is that deadline for fall was sept 15th, and i found out i was accepted by the first week in october, where as it took me MONTHS to find out I was accepted to IVCC.

Thanks for all the information!! I am actually looking for a BSN nursing program though.

CNA isn't just an easy A. I have gotten all high A's (97% or better) in microbiology, english, A&P, psychology, etc. and I just finished the CNA class and got a 88% in the class.

I'm sorry if you were offended by me saying the CNA class was an easy A. An 88 is still a really high B (2 points from an A)

I took my CNA class after having A&P 1 & 2 and I got a B & C in those classes. I personally found it to be very common sense. I'm sure it all just depends on the teacher though.

Maybe your (or anyone else's) difficulty was because the questions are worded like they are in nursing school as opposed to exams in every other class.
