Hey guys.. Been offered a med surg job on nights... I've been at a clinic since I graduated. It's really great. Love the people I work with. The thing is, I'm not quite sure I know what type of nursing I want to do yet. I know the hospital would open more options for me. I know I'm at a cushy job right now but feel I need to put my time into getting acute care experience for my career. I am now so torn. Please help! What is best at this point in my career? I graduated almost 2 years ago. I applied thinking that I need to get hospital experience but now I'm not so sure I should leave a good situation where I have a good work life balance. I am young and single.

Ask if they have a perdiem position open? Maybe you could work a few days a month on the weekend?

Are you a night person? It can be really hard for some people to work nights even if you are young an single. Would the med-surg offer be more enticing if it were not night shift. What are your long term goals? Will your cushy job allow you to achieve those goals whether the goals are professional or personal. Does your current job pay enough to support those goals? After graduating two years ago these acute care opportunities may be hard to come by in the future. Congratulations on having a clinic job and getting an offer in acute care!

Go do the med surg job, transfer to days eventually if that's your thing, and stay per diem at the clinic. That's what I'm doing in a similar situation.
