What do I do....

I've made the decision to quit my part-time job doing HH because my DON is a complete lie. And has constantly messes up the schedule and instead of owning her mistakes feels its professional to point the finger. The owner of the company is aware of the problem and is in the process of starting disciplinary action however I don't need the extra drama. Therefore I've decided to move on.....

Well today I get a phone call from my patients child at my full-time job!!! Asking me to come work for them privately!! I haven't even discuss this situation with them. However they must of felt it coming!! The patients children are begging me not to leave their mom. I don't know what to do... Opinions please.....

    Be prepared for a lot of flack from the agency employer should they find out you go to work for this former client; and they probably will find out. You will be accused of being the cause that the client leaves the agency. This could lead to being blacklisted. If you don't care about using these people as a future reference, (and it sounds like you wouldn't), then do what you feel that you must. For the least possibility of future problems, if it were me, I would probably not accept private duty for that client. But on the other hand, you have the right to earn a living. If you are so inclined, then, accept the job, but realize that there may be unforeseen consequences. Good luck.

The pt's child has offered me days.... the agency only does nights for this pt. I can't lie... I have fallen in love with my dear pt and family... I'm just confused to be honest

    I'd say it depends on your employment contract with them. When I worked HH, my contract specified I couldn't work for any of their clients for a period of two years after I left their company. Read it carefully.

    My contracts have a 6 month post employment with agency before I can work with a client either independently or via another agency. There are monetary fines and it may be enforceable.

    For the noncompete clause, if you have one: My RN coworker's response when asked to work for the new agency involved with our private duty case was "You can't tell me what I can or cannot do on my time off." Inasmuch as she had been doing private duty for the client for many years prior to the introduction of that particular agency, nobody gave her, or the client, any problems.
