What I should do?

Nursing Students Pre-Nursing

Published

i am international student that i have to pay $240 and up per unit. i paid $3400 per semester for 12 units that cost me a lot to maintain my status. i am studying at community college and i met counselor every semester. last semester, counselor said i only need to take pe class and health class to finish my aa degree which i can use it to apply in nursing school.i am taking pe and health and 3 more classes in this spring. however, i went to see counselor again on last monday. she says i can not get aa degree because i need 3 more units. then, she says i also need to take 12 units to maintain my status at the college which i have to pay more $3400 to school. i also can not apply in any nursing school because i don't have college degree.:crying2: i really feel they are greedy for international students. i don't want to waste my money for other classes. this college is having many new building and i think they need money to support. what should i do? that it is not my mistake. i feel it is the big cheating on me from my school.:crying2:

Where are you from? Maybe the extra credits that you need to take can be things that would help for nursing school. Or maybe you should try to see if you can talk to someone else other than this adivsor to see if you can just take those few classes that you need.

I'd think you would be able to apply for nursing school without a college degree though.

i agree, you don't need a college degree to apply to nursing school that gives you an associate degree. ADN

all you need is to have completed the 3 science pre req. a college english, then you can apply.

but to get a AS, you'll need to finish all the GEs and each school have their own requirements. but mainly they are sociology, history, humanity, speech ect...

the counselor from LAST year and THIS year abviously has told you two completely different things, or maybe you misunderstood the first time when you talked with her. because on your thread, you said, the LAST year counselor told you you ONLY NEED to take 2 more classes and done, right? so one of them obviously wasn't responsible enough and gave your wrong answer, I think you should dig it from there.

But you do need a degree to get out of taking the toefl. And 240 a unit is alot less than I pay as an out of state student at my local community college, so I don't think they are greedy.

You need to find out what you need to have done from the nursing school/s you plan to apply to. You don't need to have a degree to apply to nursing school. You need certain classes (pre-reqs) to apply, you don't need to complete a degree. Is there a nursing program at this school? If so the nursing advisor is the person to speak to. Not the advisor for the rest of the school, often times they are clueless about getting into the nursing program. If they don't have a nursing program then you need to research the nursing programs in your area and get in touch with an advisor there to see what the requirements are for getting into their respective programs.

Good luck!

But you do need a degree to get out of taking the toefl.

Oh I see. What is the cost of the test? Would it be cheaper than paying for more classes?
