learning somthing new everyday so never ever bored!
I LOVE my little 9 bed hospital....I have worked larger places where you have 7 pts a piece, cna's to do the baths, RT, PT, OT, code teams, IV teams, etc!! Here in the madison valley, WE NURSES ARE IT!!! We are the code team. We are housekeeping. We are the IV team. We are RT!! When you come to work for your 12 hour shift and you and your only other nurse (yes, we staff with 2 on the floor) have 6 patients, all with IV's, 3 with foleys, one chest tube, 4 are TOTAL CARE and one in the croup tent andthe you have a 2 vehicle MVC come in the ER doors, you really learn to work as a TEAM and pull it together!! I cannot imagine doing anything else!!!
This sounds like a dream job! I have came across a job recently in Kentucky, where they say nurses don't want to be, because it is a small place, but I would have been so happy to go there, I like having responsability just like you describe at your job. Of course, I couldn't get the job, it was a rapid response assignment and someone else got it. Where is Madison Valley?
Illness/disease/accident is the most stressful thing in a person's and family's life. To be able to make this time easier in even a small way is a joy. I love the constant learning and improving your knowledge and the knowledge of others...the teaching, the variety...and no day is ever alike. Best of all, there is the intense feeling of accomplishment at the end of the day....even on a "bad" day something is learned, something is resolved, a smile made someone life just a little easier.
i love nursing because i am able to use my music background to teach my patients about healthy living.

how about going into teaching? we need instructors so bad and you would be exceptional.:heartbeat
I love teaching my pts! It feels great to help someone feel more informed and comfortable with their condition/plan of care, and even though healthcare professionals never stop learning, it feels good to know that I have enough knowledge in my head to be able to impart something new to someone else every once in awhile
