What the heck is a Netie pot?

Nurses General Nursing

I was watching Discovery Health the other night and caught something about a "netie pot."

Anyone have any experience with these? Do they work? How do they work? Won't they make a sinus problem worse?

WhenI first started this sinus rinse I would only use distilled H20, but now I use tap warer and find no difference.

If you don't use some type of sodium, like what is naturally in your mucous membranes, you will dry them out and they will become irritated. It is explicitly written on all the neti pot instructions. Plus, ask your ENT, general physician.

Oh boy and ain't that the truth! Most people had never heard of the thing ~2 months ago...and then it was on Oprah...

Now the pharmacy I work at gets 15+ calls a DAY asking about the darn thing!

Same thing with Airborne....remember the great Airborne rush of 2003(4?)...when the schoolteacher who developed the formula was on Oprah? The product had been around since the mid 90's...and NObody had heard of it or used it....and then Oprah waved her wand and suddenly the whole world wanted it and swore by it. It was back-ordered for months! People went nuts over the stuff!

God bless Oprah. She could probably single handedly keep our economy going just by recommending certain products each week!

Off topic but maybe one day Ms. Winfrey will wave her magic wand and get nurses better patient ratios and raises!

My allergist told me about using a neti pot a long time ago. It REALLY does help with my sinusitis and havent had a sinus infection since using one. Plus now that I wear cpap at night...it helps keep the old nose clear.

I learned about it on Oprah. Dr. Oz had someone in the audience try it out and they swear by it. I've only heard good things about it. I really should invest in one as I have horrible allergies.

Been using one for about 2 months -- after watching Oprah. Love it!!
