Hey
I thought it would be interesting to see what things nurses dread doing. For example, I hate suctioning people, there is something about seeing stuff go thru the suc cath that flips me out. Weird huh? I can take vomitting, poop, blood etc, but when its contained in that suc cath and moving thru to the cannister, I get sick. What about the rest of you?

oh, the breath, the breath, the BAD BREATH.........that is BAD. I took care of a ped whose mother had the worst breath I have ever smelled! It was horrible, and reminded me of something rotting, dying, or feces..... the worst was after talking to her for a few minutes and then having to excuse myself, for air, I continued to smell it ALL DAY. It was like it was all over my clothes.......I have to change scrubs. And I still couldn't get rid of it!!!! :uhoh21:
geeze, it's hard to limit it to just one thing....
if i had to pick one thing thatreally makes me want to yak, it would be taking dentures out of someone's mouth and there's food and stuff caked all over them. now, i've never had a problem with bedpans, i can even suction people without a problem, but just the thought of handling those slimy things with only-god-knows-what all over them makes me want to blow chunks...am i weird? lol
:chair: god help me cuz i know if i ever lost my teeth...i'd be ready to gum everything cuz i'm *not* wearing dentures :rotfl: !!!!
cheers,
moe
what I hate most about my job, in agreement with others here----> rude, hateful family members who know everything you need to do for their family member, even though they sell used cars for a living! I give my soul daily to this customer oriented business, then one family out of 200 complains you did not answer questions or you "talked down to them". Very dispiriting when this is what you hear about from the higher ups, not the good things. What is a person to do? sigh, you can't please all the people all the time.
at my place, we put solidifier into the cannister to make it less likely to spread everywhere, and then we dispose of it in a biohazard bin. keeps that crap outta the water supply. It's a tie between emptying rectal tube bags and colostomies. Eeeh gads. Also hate dumping the contents of suction cannisters into the toilet. Makes me gag bigtime.
Post mortem care....not usually a big deal for me, but having worked nocs before, i have on occasion helped wheel em to the morgue. Now that I HATE. Especially when the tech throws open the cooler to wheel the gurney in and a waft of dead cold air hits ya in the nostrils....bodies lined on the shelves. Disturbing. I avoid that trip at all costs.
I'm with you on that cold dead air coming out of the cooler, luckily I don't have to go to the morgue very often. Worst for me is infected trach's. YYUUUUUCCCCCCCKKK!!!! Before we had gloves and face shields I hated dodging loogies when my trach patients coughed.
