What do you hate about your Nursing School?

I need to vent. I hate, hate, hate my nursing school. The instructors openly admit that they try to weed people out, they're impatient with you if you're not already a tech, they're racists, and seem to hate their job. I have had an awful experience, so much so that I don't want to go to my own pinning. Anybody else feel this way?:angryfire

ugh. we have 2 of that type of person in our class. i don't tolerate that kind of behavior from my middle schooler (and that's where you see it most) and it drives me nuts that there are adults doing it as well!

i had to work with one of them in lab once. i wanted to smack this person because of the "snippy" comments i was getting (we were doing foleys and i messed up big time).

i didn't have to work with either of these people in clinical this time. but, we're only a class of 25, and i know there's going to come a time when i have to work with one of them. i just have to remember that i'm bigger than this, and i don't want to get asked to leave school after all the hard work that i've put into this program.

Wow, our schools have some things in common(students complaing of grades, behavior of the instructors. As far as the student problems, the faculty have put and end to it. One of the instructors put a post on our blackboard (communication board) addressed the "experts" in the program. It basically stated, "if you have any questions come to us and not fellow classmates".

I cannot stand that way the instructors behave at times. For example, my clinical instructor accused me of not filling in my I&O's just because the nurse manager on the floor said I did. My instructor did not even "validate" the subjective data (lol) before she confronted me. She looked at the patient's record and they both saw infront of me that I did infact document. Neither one of them apologized to me.

I guess it is just a sign of the times.

Things that I hate about nursing school are the nurses in clinicals that go out of their way to get you in trouble and when you're asked about it from the clinical instructor they agree with you but still take points from you because of the incident.

That because we're an LPN program the RN students in clinicals think they get to tell us what to do and when those same RN students screw up it has to be the LPN students because there's just no way a RN student would do something like that.

How after all this time and graduation next week that one instructor in particular still thinks that I'm an idiot even though she's only taught me in class where I've gotten A' and B's and only had me in clinicals once at the very beginning of class.

That we're suppose to be a class of adults and you're either treated like a child and that there's still cliques from high school with people in there 50's.

My school is great with ONE exception...the other students.

Don't get me wrong, it's only a select few...You know who I am talking about...

1. the tech/CNA know-it-all

2. the "someone in my family has this disease so I'm an expert"

Just let the teacher finish the lecture already. Quit interrupting with your dumb questions and worse, your dumb stories. I can't stand these people!!!

Amen!!!

Here's another one, one student just told me, that the instructor told her, that since she failed her last test, she better ship that new baby off to her mama's. What?!:nono:

I hate how returning students(those who failed and retured) speak in class... They are just annoying .They talk like they already know everything.. I am always mad cos I think they should have passed the first time if they indeed know everything abt nursing.

I don't really hate anything about my nursing school, but there are two things I don't like:

1) How a certain # of students accepted into the program have to be fresh out of high school. I had to work really hard to be accepted, and these people didn't do anything but kiss butt in high school. Also, most of them aren't mature enough to deal with nursing school yet.

2) Our school wears completely white in clinicals -enough said.

 EXACTLY!

I hate that they think the students are mind readers and should be able to know what they want from us without us being told. I also hate that they are trying to CRAM a full semester of peds & OB into 8 weeks.

My list grows on a daily basis. Ask me again next week and I'll probably have a few more things for you!

try not to complain too much or you'll get kicked out like i did. now my life is really messed up, all that $$ and work for nothing...I was 4 months from graduation. I totally agree with you, how are we supposed to know what we need to know or what questions to ask when we don't even know what we are SUPPOSED to know!!?? If you say anything bad about your instructors, it WILL get back to them, and you will be sorry. So for now, think and talk and behave as if your instructors are the all knowing, all powerful wonderful goddesses of your world, because they are, no matter what you REALLY think of them.. They hold all the cards. I wish somone had reminded me of this a month ago, I would still be in school and getting ready to graduate instead of trying to reapply to other schools and starting all over again. stick it out, work hard and good luck.

I hate having to wait an entire week for exam grades!!!

That's about it :). I actually like my nursing school.
