So, what's the one thing about your job that you despise the most? We all encounter something at our work we're not really fond of. Also, on the other end of the spectrum, what is the one thing about your job that makes you feel really, really fortunate about doing the work that you do and having the position that you currently hold?
I would kick this off with my own contribution but I'm not a nurse yet. (Just fishing for some insight). Anyway, vent, gloat and get going!
Psychiatric RN:
Hate the staffing issues--usually we're short-staffed. Psych scares a lot of people off.
Love that the "pillow-fluffing" duties are at a minimum compared to med-surg, so that I and my staff can spend more time actually interacting with patients...and that interaction is very rewarding. Granted, some days I have to interact with patients from several feet away, while they're actively hallucinating or escalating, and/or while ducking thrown objects. But those days are exceptions rather than the norm :)
Love: The genuine thanks I get from my patients and families. Getting to know my patient, tonight for example I had a rec'd report that my patient was "out of it." When I started talking to him and joking around, gave him a drink, shaved his face and rubbed lotion into his very CKD skin, at the end he simply said thank you for spending the time with me.
Hate: When I gave report to the on-coming nurse her focus was that I did not "cure" his years worth of ckd, that he was congested and she might have to do a little work tonight.
Just hate the stress. The very hectic moments trying to get so much done in so little time. Really hate the nasty co-workers and most of all, nurses who eat their young. I hope for some of them, that karma will be a real b***tch. Because as time goes on and i actually meet more nice nurses that ARE out there -- the meanies seem all the more ridiculous.
But I love the appreciative patients, the cute litte demented old ladies and all the touching moments w/ patients. Love getting better at my job as time goes on. Love being off 4-5 days now a week and being available for my family, while bringing home good money to make life easier. I also love wearing scrubs. :)

LOVE: Seeing my patients get better and go home. Appreciative families! Co-workers who are willing to work as a team. Educating and comforting families. The kids who hug me and say "thanks for being a good nurse".
HATE: Those nurses who fuel to a toxic environment. Working night shift! Physicians and nurses who will eat you up, spit you out, and then stomp on you without thinking twice about it. Trauma admissions and codes (I am not an adrenaline junkie)! Management who forgot what it is like to be a bedside staff nurse.

I work as an Tech/CNA in a Pediatric ER.
What I Love: My patients and their families. Being able to be silly and funny to calm down a scared child so I can do whatever I need to do to help them. Being challanged every day with whatever comes through the door from the cases that should have been seen in a primary care providers office to the life or death traumas.
What I Hate: Spending half my shift transporting patients because the hospital is too cheap to hire a transporter on nights even though its one of the busiest times in the ER. Nurses who will sit at the computer and talk about wedding plans or just BS with the other nurses and tell me "All my patients need vital signs or BLAH BLAH BLAH" and they watch me have to worry about 20+ patients when each nurse only has 4 or less.
