What grows in your abdomen with a baby??

I am VERY curious about this.

An acquaintance of mine has recently gotten pregnant. She was about twenty weeks along when she started having some abdominal discomfort. The doctors did an ultrasound and said that she has a mass growing in her abdomen above her uterus that was basically squishing the growing baby. I asked her what it was and she said the docs didn't know but were not concerned. They told her it would continue to grow so the baby would not have much room to move around. I asked her if it was a hydatiform mole (sp??) She said, "No". She said besides it not IN her uterus. The doc was apparantly not concerned with removing it either.

What can you have that is benign and grows outside of the uterus with the baby??. I think that is just so bizarre. She even said at first the docs thought it was twins!!! The mass is above her uterus in her abd cavity.

Heard of anything like that??? I did some research but can't find anything OB related....Thanks!

well..It could be a fibroid. Or endometrial tissue perhaps. Or an ovarian cyst. I had one removed when I was pregnant because it was somehow a threat to the pregnancy--they thought I was carrying twins too because I got so big so fast but it was a grapefruit sized cyst. Your friend would do well to ask the doctor to specify what it is; knowledge is power and she is her baby's best advocate. Let us know what it is...I'm curious!

Fibroid would be my best guest too. I hope everything works out okay for her and the baby.

Maybe a polyp? I had a polyp with my pregnancy, they removed it and it grew back. They had to remove it again and so far it has stayed away.

Sounds like she needs a second opinion.

Huh. Interesting, thank you. I will be seeing her soon and if I can get an elaboration I'll let ya know!
