My hard working peers, my greatest fear in nursing is giving the wrong medication to a patient in error, resulting in the death of the patient. What is your greatest fear related to nursing?

My greatest fear in nursing is making one of those "what was I thinking mistakes" and causing harm to the patient. Making a mistake and then trying to figure out what my thought process was behind it or if it was a systematic issue and coming up completely blank about why I did it other than that I just wasn't thinking. There's no logic, however faulty that logic may be.

Those are the mistakes that scare me because they are so unpredictable and there doesn't seem to be any way to fix them at all because I cannot figure out where the disconnect happened.

Another great fear of mine would be if my license were to be disciplined or revoked.

No license = No livelihood.

That things will never get better.

I'm constantly in fear of missing something pertinent that will be lead to a fatal outcome for a patient. I try my best and I give a prayer of thanks after every shift, wish I could let go of this fear...
