Hi, I was wondering what everyone did when they didn't get into their program. I have mostly A's and some B's in my science pre reqs and got rejected/waitlisted from 6 schools. I'm currently 21 right now living in Southern Cali and have no other degree besides an AA. I get paid minimum wage working part time (they don't offer full time obviously) at an ice cream store and cannot find another higher paying job in this economy so I'm not really sure what I should do next. The only thing I'm considering right now is taking Physics next semester so I can apply to a private school.
I'm applying for spring, and will have all my general ed's for the program done after this fall semester. If I don't get in for spring, I will try to work as a CNA (will be taking the course as a pre-req in June/July) and try again. I will probably also take some of the gen ed's for the RN bridge to get them out of the way while I wait. I'm not positive I'm going to go on to the RN program, but it will help me pass the time and I'll be a step ahead if I do. But I'm really hoping I don't have to worry about any of it and get in for spring!
Actually, last semester (Spring 09) I took Pharmacology and Human Growth and Development (Psych version) @ GWC so it would lessen my load when I get into the program. Out of all the schools I applied for, I was really hoping to get into GWC which is why I took the classes needed to graduate. I'm also only applying to schools around my area and I'm not really willing to leave home because I think it would be too much for me. I also forgot to apply to some other schools around my area, so my list of schools will be a little bigger next semester also.
DONT give up!!!. Everything happens for a reason. Actually, you shape your future so if you dont get in one place and you still want to be a nurse then it is up to YOU to find another way. Research the schools in your area. Take classes if that will boost your chances into getting into a certain program. Also, have you contemplated being a nurse aide? Some hospitals offer nursing programs and it would help if you already worked for them already as an aide. good luck!!!!

Oh My!!!!! i love your words of wisdom! i am going to quote you on my special page on facebook, if you dont mind. yes, i truly believe that you do shape up your own future and it is up to you to decide your fate. reading this totally shot me! thanks!!!!!
I'm on a wait list for fall '09 for an ADN program. If I don't get in there I'll be waiting until fall '10 for that program (it's the only area nights and weekends nursing courses and I work FT during the day). If I don't make it in off of the wait list (which I probalby won't ) then i'll spend the next year taking the gen ed classes I need for the RN-BSN program I hope to start shortly after I finish my ADN.

Yes to go with what Maggie24 said. You can take pharmacology and pathophysiology at goldenwest college which is the only college I could find where those classes were listed as biology class and not nursing classes. If you get these out of the way it will definitely lessen the course load your first semester in nursing school. I start this fall and I wished I had taken pathophysiology too because I would only have 9 semesters my first semester of nursing school but at least I got pharmacology out of the way.
