What is the difference between heart palpitations & arrhythmia?

I had influenze A a couple weeks ago. {after having the flu shot}. My vitals where really affected, after listening to my heart they wanted to do an EKG. Since I have no insurance, I refused.

A couple weeks later at the doctors, because of pressure on my chest, from a bronchial involvement, the doctor asked me some cardiac questions. She asked me if I had felt skipped beats or flutter, and I actually had during the past two weeks, and then asked if I had felt my pulse, as she knew I was a nurse, I actually had put on the sat monitor many times to check my progress. Even when I felt a flutter, I saw no change in the rate or rhthym.

For me, during my recovery, I was certian any chest pressure or flutters where a result of the chest congestion. I was leary of running down the path of I am afraid I am having a heart attack, as I have seen others do.

But, I wonder, aside from pulmonary conditions like the flu, copd ect. Are flutters and palpations a precurser to some day later having an arrythmia?

A person may have palpitations with or without a dysrhythmia. The dysrhythmia may be benign or it could be problematic. The benign rhythm may eventually turn into one that is more problematic. For instance, frequent PACs (usually not a problem) may degenerate into atrial fibrillation.
