I was just wondering what contribution can a nursing student make to the nursing field?

So lost with this question.

Work as a nurse tech? Eventually become a practicing nurse and contribute to the health care of patient?

Specializes in Nursing Professional Development.

It depends on the skills that the student brings. It also depends on the circumstances in which the student finds himself/herself ... how hard he/she is willing to work, etc.

For example, a student could provide excellent patient care during a clinical rotation and help a patient. A student could do some research and publish a brilliant paper about it. etc. etc. etc.

So, what is it that you are interested in doing?

Yep, agree with llg. Just depends on the scope of what you're talking about and how hard you're willing to work.

Here's something interesting, even if it's not the same. Lesch-Nyhan syndrome is a genetic disorder where kids have multiple medical problems along with self-mutilation tendencies. It is actually named after the two guys who identified it - a medical student and his research mentor. A similar contribution in nursing is pretty unlikely, but possible.

You were just sitting around wondering this? I wasn't so deep when I was a student!

Like the previous posters, nursing is a wide open career choice with opportunities for so many things. I guess what you would have to offer as a student would depend largely on what your interests and strengths are.

Perspective, enthusiasm, initiative and drive come to mind.

It's quite refreshing to have this question asked even if it's probably not specific enough to answer the question in your mind.

I student who excels and strives for excellence will probably make an RN who excels and strives for excellence, in which case the contribution would actually be themselves. I hope that makes some sense. :)
