What classes should i take?

Published

I'm currently a senior this year and i will be attending community college in the fall for the first two years and then transfer to a four year university or cal state to attend a nursing program.

I was just wondering if there are certain general ed classes i should take before i transfer to a nursing program? Like a certain science math or psychology class?

Any advice would be much appreciated!

good you're thinking ahead!

i would go online to whichever school you want to go to and see their degree plan for nursing. but most nursing degrees require; freshman comp. i, general phsycology, nutrition, a math course (check which math is required), and a few others.

i would do a freshman comp. i, since you're still in high school all the english writing stuff is very fresh in your mind. or do the phsycology class. i think those would be good classes to start out with since you're still in high school and you have other classes to keep up with.

I took a regular psychology class as a junior last year and i'm taking ap psychology this year as a senior. Should i take psychology again when i enter college? along with freshmen comp 1, nutrition, and some type of math course?

check with the college you're going to attend if any of the classes you've taken and are going to take are transfrable (sp?), and if they are check if they are the ones that are on the degreen plan, and if they are, you can just mark them off and take another course that is on the degree plan. how many hours, or college courses are you planning on taking each semester?

you have to take and pass the ap test for it to transfer. most colleges will accept a 3. did you take your SATs? those scores can pass you out of remedial or introductory english and math classes, again, depending on the school. you should talk to a counselor and look online to be sure. i am a freshman (finishing my first semester) and i am taking: human bio, statistics, speech and history. next semester i am trying to get into microbio lab 9labs are impossible to get into!) but i am in micro lecture and philosophy (we don't get to register for out full spring units until jan!) . i go to sfsu what cal state are you looking to transfer to?

In Colorado we have what's known as a 60/60 program. It allows you to take 60 credits at a community college that will be accepted at the university for a BSN. They are even listed in the cc catalog as being guaranteed state transferable.

I did what many have suggested. I found the school(s) I was interested in and printed out their pre-req sheet. Then I went to my CC catalog and found a program that would be a close match. I will have an A.S. this spring that happens to meet all my BSN requirements except for 1 extra class I had to take for the A.S. Here are a list of my classes that I have took and will take in the spring:

Science of Bio w/lab

English Comp 1

AP 1 & 2 w/labs

Dietary Nutrition

Intro to Chem w/lab

Microbiology w/lab

Gen Psych

English Comp 2

Human Growth & Dev

College Algebra

Anthro

Art Appreciation

Music Appreciation

Western Civ

Stats

Logic (philosophy)

Sociology

Interpersonal Communication (course for the AS)

Hope that give you an idea. Check with the school you want to attend before you do anything else and make yourself a plan, some pre-reqs are themselves pre-requisites.

Good Luck!!

BTW: My daughter is a Junior and will be starting the same path as me next fall. I am suggesting she start with Bio and English first...they are pre-reqs for many other classes.

I agree that you should check with the schools you plan to apply to so that you don't waste anytime taking classes that won't transfer. All schools should have lists of pre reqs or recommended classes to take. Meet with an advisor and explain to them what schools you wish you apply to and they should be able to give you suggestions as well!

You may have to take general bio before anatomy and physiology and Microbiology, but all schools are different. General Psych, Developmental Psych, English 101/102, Nutrition, Sociology 101 and Statistics were a few other classes I needed to take at community college too, as well as a computer class and humanities electives. When it comes down to it, it depends on the school you're applying to though! Again, make sure that everything is transferable!

forgot to mention to check out assist.org. it gives you transfer agreements between ccc and csu or uc. also in ccc catalogs make SURE the classes you take say "csu" under it somewhere-that tell you that the credits will transfer but assist.org tells you what the credit counts for. good luck!

I probably want to transfer to cal state fullerton, but ive been looking at other colleges too.
