What to charge for chart review/opinion?

Published

Hi all:

I've never done legal work as an RN and have just been approached by a legal services company to review records on a brief case in my specialty (Oncology) and offer an opinion. I will need to get back to them on the hourly rate and possibly how many hours minimum. This is completely out of the blue and I wanted advice on reasonable rate/hour minimum. They said folks charge between $150 and $275 an hour.

Would love to get your thoughts. Need to get back to them in a day or two.

Thank you!

Just curious how Legal Service Company would contact you out of the blue? Alot of people with Legal Nurse Certifications have difficulty finding work.

They found me on LinkedIn based on my professional creds/experience.

There are listing services that charge for your ad; I never got anything from any of the ones I paid good money to. I’ve gotten several clients via LinkedIn. Most of my work has come from people who found me based on my publications listed in a Google search  (hint: find out what your professional publications are, ask the editors what they want, and then write for them) and, overwhelmingly, word of mouth from former clients and colleagues. Membership and networking c your professional org, AALNC, either FTF or via the very active virtual chapter is essential both for getting work and learning far more than you got in your coursework. The AALNC has great online webinars including on marketing, too.
