I have a job interview in Homestead Florida. I need to make an informed decision about moving down there. I have never visited southern Florida. My understanding is it's outside of Miami. Has anyone ever had experience working for Baptist Healthcare System in southern Florida?
I have lived in Homestead and "Cutler Bay" for over 10 years. Dirty, dirty, dirty is all I can say. The only "parks" I see are the ones people deal drugs in. "Cutler Bay" formally known as Cutler Ridge is still the same nasty area, with a new name. Go to 216th street on the wrong side of US1 and you'll see what I mean. Sure, new houses are springing up, but they are building in the crudy parts of town, and then renaming them so out-of-towners will buy in to this "deal". Me and my husband are hispanic (Puerto Rican and Cuban respectively) and even we are moving out of here.
I won't lie the new Homestead Hospital is a pretty facility, but that's about all I can say.
But I've told you enough, you'll just have to come here and see for yourself. Just be sure to look past the new developments, and drive thru the older areas they are trying to cover up.
I never lived in Homestead but travelled though on my way to the Keys. It seemed poor, lots of trailers, Waffle Houses, more southern than the Florida I know.quiet, small town that got creamed during Andrew.
I love waffle houses! but I've never seen one down here. I've only seen them in orlando!, I'd love to go to one down here!

Hey! HEY! LOL!.. Leave Waffle House out of this convo.. WH is up north too.. So,it is not descript of a "southern" living!
to the OP, I say come and see for yourself. I tell folks dont move to FLA period, right now. It's a freaking mess here.
UNLESS.. they GUARANTEE you a job!
We have 1 million unemployed Floridians.
I have read on here. Where folks thought they had a job at a facility. Only to be told they decided to freeze their hiring. Folks had quit their former jobs with no safety net.
Yes, you can find good and great housing.. But you have to pay to play .. Do your research before moving? Yes, you need to check out the crime rate of certain neighborhoods. Therefore, you'll know not to move or drive into them. Sadly, it's true many jobs ask.. Do you know Spanish?? It should not be a requirement.. My thoughts, when you are in Rome .. Do what the Romans do.
I love Florida! It's expensive..
But if this is where your heart/mind/soul leads you.. Welcome
