Hi, my name is Celi. I'm new to the community. I live in NNJ. I'm in need of some help. I don't know what to do so I decided to join here and see if I can get some input. I've been a student at Community College for 2 years plus trying to get my pre-requisites. I have completed most of them by next semester. Just have have Math left. I have had some problems in some material Math, Chemistry and Microbiology which I've failed and had to take over. Im a mother of 2 children, work out of home, and take 14 credits in school which is very hard . This has brought my GPA down and I'm having some trouble finding a school because they all require a GPA of 3.0 and higher. I took the NET test at a hospital I was transferring to for the RN and failed it. I'm a medical assistant and love the medical field. It's my passion and my dream. And I will not give up. Does anyone have any suggestions of what I can do? I was thinking of just getting my Associates degree and then just enter the RN program but it would take me an extra year to do that. Or maybe doing the LPN program bridge to Rn which is the same amount of time. But I woukd have to take the NET test again and make sure I pass this time. Does anyone know something I don't? Any suggestions woukd be appreciated. Thanks.

Whatever you do, don't give up. I encourage you to "shop around" for colleges. Different colleges have different entrance requirements for their RN programs. Some are competitive based on GPA, while others require only that your GPA reach a threshold level. Some look at total GPA, while others concentrate only on pre-reqs. Some even allow repeats to improve grades!
I'd recommend that you do a few things while you're shopping for a college:
1) Space your classes out so that you can do very well on your remaining pre-req(s).
2) Investigate whether your current college has an academic renewal program. This will allow you to essentially discard your bad grades. Many colleges offer this. Unfortunately, there is often a waiting period of several years before you can have a failing grade expunged from your record.
3) Think about going an extra semester or two and taking some less challenging classes that will pump up your GPA.
4) Many hospitals and health systems fund nursing programs at local colleges. If you work for one of these places, you may be eliglible for "relaxed" entrance requirements.
I know how competitive it is to get into nursing school. You're in a bit of a tough spot, but all is not lost. Just do your best in your remaining classes, use some strategy when choosing a college, and play the angles for all you're worth!
