What can a good lawyer do in these cases?

Published

I was informed by my previous employer that they are reporting me to the board for suspected drug abuse. I was told that they would not do a drug screen because the allegations alone were enough to prompt reporting. This was a little over 2 months ago but I haven’t heard from the board.

I read conflicting messages about whether it is worthwhile to get a lawyer. The board of nursing can do as they please so I wasn’t sure what the purpose was of trying to fight. I reached out to some nurse lawyers but wanted to get some general feedback.

My lawyer has been my saving grace.  He charged a very expensive flat fee in the beginning, but has been worth every penny. He has represented me with the board, the court system, pnap, and even recently with an employer who terminated me due to my record after having worked there for a month.

As far as drug testing, the money you pay for it could mean the difference between having a nurse wage or a cashier wage down the road.  Pay for the drug testing.

You are lucky. My lawyer was garbage. I threw him thousands for nada! Then he wanted more thousands to represent me in court.

I followed everyone's advice and did a 14 panel hair test that came back clean. I spoke with an attorney who advised me to call back when I get a notice from the board.

It's been almost 7 months. I thought maybe something would come with my license renewal but so far I've heard nothing. I wonder if that is the normal wait time? I have no plans to reach out to the board to find out.
