I have my NCLEX-PN test on DEC 26, 2013 & I'm SOOO SCARED TO TAKE IT!! My school had us register up for ATI, it's an online nursing college tutoring class & I just finished doing a pharm. assessment and I DID HORRIBLE!! I honestly don't know what I'm going to do because medications are such a pain for me & so hard to learn about everything that goes along with it. SOS!!

Learn each med by category ex. antihypertensives. anticonvulsants. Look at what they do in general and then see if there is something different that one med may do or cause. All of those meds can be overwhelming so think of it as a whole. I noticed that a lot of the questions that I got wrong because I didn't know that certain drugs were in a class. Some drugs may not have a prefix of suffix that makes it identifiable and you just have to find a way to remember which class it's in. I made note cards and would randomly test myself to see if I knew the meds. It's all about repetition and memorization with meds.

The generic name of the drug will often guide you to what class of medication it belongs to. Try to review the most commonly prescribed medications of the following classes: anti-inflammatory, antibiotics, anti-convulsants, narcotics, antiretrovirals, tuberculosis meds, antiarrythmics, diuretics, lipid regulators, antidepressants, beta-blockers, ACE inhibitors, benzodiazepines, tranquilizers, antidiabetics and insulins.
If you are faced with a question in which you have absolutely no idea what the medication is, try to use your test-taking strategies to make and educated guess: eliminate answers that are comparable or alike, and pick the answer that stands out (the odd man out). Client safety is always a priority in NCLEX questions when in comes to questions in which you must monitor a client's response after administering a medication. Therefore, an answer concerning the Air-breathing-circulation is most likely the correct answer for medications that will have an effect on the cardiovascular and neurological system of the client.
Hope this helps.
