What are the average point value in getting into grossmont or san diego city college?

Hello everyone! I have been overly obessed on the thought of getting accepted into a nursing program. I need to figure out what everyone received in points- based on the point system grid, so I can judge where I stand at currently. How many points did you receive to get accepted into these nursing programs?

I am looking to apply this July for spring 2014 program. I only have one class left (microbio) and I need to take the TEAS exam(which I have been studying for a couple of months now), which I plan on taking in June.

I am estimating, if i get an A in microbiology--I will have a score of 3.77 on the prereq (B+ in anatomy,A in physiology and A in microbiology)

-3.86 in the "fixed set" (A in everything but sociology=B+)

-10 points forallied health certificatiion & work experience

-4 points for hardship point (i.e military,1st gen, need to work etc.)

-TEAS V-- guestimating 35-40 points----knock on wood!

Overall, my total points that I am looking at is between 77-82pts. Please help me and let me know if I have any hope in getting in with this or things I should do? Thank you so much for your time with this! As most of you know, this stuff is stressful--it is to the point that I am getting gray hairs and I am only 25!

Thanks again :-)

Worst case scenario; Grossmont does not work out, then apply for San diego city college. Or even Palomar (they are not waitlisted anymore).

Hello everyone!

I remember being in you guys' situation not too long ago, asking everyone what their estimated points are, who got in && who didn't, having plan Bs & Cs && even Ds, but thats all over now because i got in the grossmont's nursing program!! It was such a great feeling, and then..

The semester started..we've only been in the program for three weeks and we've had three exams! Dosage calc. exam w/c u need to get a 100% on, pharm exam, and fundamentals which covered 13 chapters! We've covered 13 broad chapters in two weeks! Ridiculous! And on top of that we needed to learn all these skills! It's tough! But it so worth it because grossmont has a very good reputation wit san diego hospitals!

Anyways, for the alternates, dont worry! U guys are more than likely to get in, some ppl are not gonna pass their background check, or some will choose another school over grossmont. So just hang in there!

Hi @rh0shan09, can i ask how many points you had? and do you know what was the lowest points cut off for your cohort? Thank you in advance :)

When do they do the background check? I got a DUI in 2008, finished all court programs and fines and am no longer on probation, hope it won't be a "flag", but maybe I should do a background on myself just in case.

I know the lowest points for this cohort at grossmont was 70 or below. I calculated 72 points for myself but when I went in to turn in immunizations they had 70 on my app, so I guess I didn't get all the "extra points".

Hello DinaLin, thank you! I really am hoping you get in soon. I estimate to have 79 points. I was lacking on language, volunteering hours, and on fix set GPA, I have all A's but a B on math. I believe my fix set GPA is 3.86 which is equal to 13 pts. Hope this helps.

@rh0shan09 Any advice for the new class? Can you give us some insight on the program?

Hi everyone. I also got accepted to Grossmont's Spring 2014 cohort. I believe I had 73 points.

Would you recommend studying anything particular before the program starts or purchasing the books? I did get a used pharm book on amazon.

Adele,

I was wondering if having a DUI on records would disqualified from program? I have it too, and I'm afraid it might affect my chance of getting in, I'm already accepted by another school, just pending background check. Please let me know. Thnx

I got into the Mira Costa nursing program! Woooohoooo! My calculations showed that I had 73pts :-)

I see alot of you stressing about points. It's a different number for each college. I got into all the SD county colleges but chose Grossmont. I wish I had done my research first. There's alot of bullying of students by the professors. I've seen it in my group and have met others that endured it from prior cohorts. It's really a thing and everyone else will see it happening but be afraid to speak up. In talking with nurses and professors elsewhere, I'm told it is not common practice in college. Usually it happens when you are new at work. So I started researching lawsuits against the college. Very interesting. Grossmont finally stopped asking for a picture with the application as there was a discrimination suit amongst some others. Be sure to look at such things for each school that interests you. If you can ask a grad, they may be honest as they are safely done.
