What was your ABSN program like? Was it hard?

Published

Wondering if the ABSN program is hard as they say. I know nothing is easy. What were your experiences and any downtime?

thanks!

varies 100% on the program. I go/went to CMSV and it is a terrible school I can list 100 things they have done that are absolutely insane and against policy. even the dean just quit this past week. this is the type of school where the professors are out ot get you 100%. BUT my bf went to an amazing program the professors cared, they helped you, they werent only in it for the money and his school has a very high pass NCLEX rate

Hi! Sorry for the late reply I was neck deep into studying for midterms and finals and forgot I even have this account. I can't figure out how to send you private message so I'll just post my response here.

I am sorry you had such a bad experience in your last nursing program. I only attended NYU so I can only give you what I know and can't compare it to anything else. Overall I am satisfied with the program. I can't say the professors are out to get you because they do genuinely want you to pass and do provide aid if needed. They care about their students success and ultimately want us to succeed even though I feel like sometimes the work can be unfair and tedious. But they have our best interest in mind. If you put in the work, it will show in your grades. Many students have trouble finding the price tag worth it though because it is a huge commitment. However, I find that it is because I do not have anything else I want to do and I know I am investing in my future. So that will be something you have to determine on your own.

As for school work, so far it is about 2-3 exams per class. Some classes only have a midterm and a final but it depends. Some classes also have weekly quizzes to test if you have done the reading and are coming to class prepared. As for ATI, NYU gives them to you, so you will have access to many test questions to practice for your NCLEX. They also assign work on the ATI as well that goes towards your grade. They have simulation labs where you practice on dummies for your clinical skills and also have OFF CAMPUS clinicals in NYU LANGONE hospitals (only because of covid they're limited the range of facilities we can complete our hours in). You have to maintain a 73 or higher in all classes to move on. It is a tough and stressful program but its organized to the best of its ability. As long as you manage your time correctly you will be okay. It was overwhelming at first but after a few weeks I got used to it and it was fine.

IDK if this helped, lmk if you have any other questions

When you take four years of school and condense it onto 12-18 months its going to be more difficult. As an Accelerated BSN student, I feel like I am working triple as hard as my friends in traditional nursing programs.

...not complaining, just saying ?
