I am finishing my last 2 classes for wgu to start in ft worth in December. I was wondering how long have some of you finished the rn bsn program. I am wanting to finish it in 1 yer and take nclex and be done. Is it possible to do so. If any1 has done it and or is enrolled can you tell me how it is is it easy to navigate thru the program I understand self taught and it will be complicated at times, but I can use anyone's experience. Thank you.

If you are not an RN and enrolling in the prelicensure BSN program, you cannot accelerate. It takes 30 months no matter what. It is the ONLY WGU degree that cannot be accelerated.

It is not 'self-taught'. The didactic content is delivered online, but there are webinars and 1:1 with instructors every step of the way. Additionally, there are weekend skills/ simulation lab and of course hundreds of hours of clinicals.

I already had my RN and was a working nurse when I did WGU RN-BSN. It took me 1 1/2 years.

I did RN to MSN in 2.5 years. However, I already had my two year degree. You cannot accelerate RN-BSN if you don't already have a nursing degree.

I am a lvn with all but 2 pre reqs finished. I hear that some people finish in 1 year and others longer depending on the pace they set.

How hard was this course to complete with a full time job and a family. I am really determined to complete this.

You are confusing the degrees. If you are not an RN, you are enrolling in the Prelicensure BSN program. Let's call it PL. PL requires 30 months of continuous enrollment. Period. No way around it. Most PL students hold down jobs during the program. You should have an in-depth conversation with your enrollment counselor about it.

The people who are chiming in about finishing in a year are in the RN-to-BSN program. So they are ALREADY RNs and are finishing a higher degree. Apples and Oranges if you will. Both result in a BSN, starting point is different.

I hope this is helpful. (I work for WGU in this program and my information is reliable, not opinion)

so helpful thank you

My pleasure. Since the PL program is only offered in five states, most WGU students (and a large number of WGU employees!) don't know it exists or don't understand the differences. WGU has 100,000+ currently enrolled students, and only a few hundred of them are in PL nursing. There are 25,000+ in the RN-to-BSN and MSN programs by way of comparison.

However, it is a great program and intentionally designed for working adults. Good luck!

When I was interested in RN to BSN, with WGU

The data I entered on application, was "sold" to just about every online program -- I had to block calls for nearly 100 online schools......

However I feel their program very credible....... I was a biology major 3&1/2 years before doing a Dip. program ( which I do not regret). As I as clinically prepared to be a safe practioner......

As in I graduated 11am, and was charge nurse in same hospital CCU for the 3-11 shift......as a GN, passed boards first time around.....

WGU does not and never has 'sold' student leads. Why would they? Those hundreds calls came from somewhere else.
