WGU Sept 2014..Anyone??

Nursing Students Western Governors

Published

Greetings my fellow Nurses, I am aiming to begin RN-BSN in Sept. Anyone else? Any current WGU students or Alum want to share any words of wisdom??

I am suppose to start in Sept. & I have 8 Cu's pre-req to take. & I've taken Nutrition twice in the last 3 years and look forward to taking it yet again.... just because no one thinks you learned anything! Grrrr.....! I filled out my background long before my transcripts were even evaluated, my intake interview is on monday.

I'm in the process of applying and shooting for a September start as well for the RN-BSN program. :)

29 CU to get your BSN and another 31 for your MSN right? not just 31 if you decided to take the RN-MSN

Well honestly now that you ask I'm not sure. They way my counselor explained it made me believe it was not all together, so yes 29 for BSN & 31 for MSN but I will definitely inquire to be certain.

I'll repost after I speak with someone from WGU.

Also, I don't recall how long my background check took but it wasn't a long process though ...less than a week.

I am hoping to start the RN-MSN Education track September 1st.. just waiting on my transcripts to get to them and reviewed. Looking forward to it. I think I have quite a few CUs to complete including a few of the General education ones as well such as History, Communication/Speech, 1 Humanities, Biochem, Nutrition, and Stats. At least that's what I could figure out based on the transfer paper that they sent me.

I am debating switching to an RN-MSN, would they still award a BSN once the BSN credits are completed or is it an all or nothing plan?

I submitted my updated resume, now just need to finish the background check!

I had my intake interview today (if that's what it's called). I will start Sept. 1st. I need 29 CU to get BSN and 31 to complete MSN in nursing education.

It sounds pretty straight forward. I hope all goes well. I applied to a school in my state and it's so slow and unorganized compared to WGU. I'm ready!

That is AWESOME good luck

I finally got all my my transcripts in, boy what pain in the but. I have not heard about the transcript evaluation. I have a phone appointment with my advisor tonight at 8:30. That is 15 min form now, I hope she has good news for me. I am pensive.

From what I was told, yes you can (if you request it) get your BSN certificate/degree when you complete it.

You will get your BSN when you complete the 120 CU's required (this includes the 50 you get for just being an RN plus any transfer credits).

So I talked to my enrollment counselor and she said

"In the RN to MSN the student would only receive a certificate of completion within the program. At the end of the program they will receive both the BSN and MSN degrees. There is an option to petition for it within the program, but it is not guaranteed"

so IDK how hard it really is to petition for it :/

Unrelated but are our enrollment counselors our mentors through out the program? if so is there a way to request a different one?

My background check took about 48 hours.

I just got my eval back and I have to take 45 credits....Not what I wanted to hear....any thoughts?

I'm pretty sure you can appeal within 15 days, don't know how well that would work, the only thing I tried to appeal was nutrition, but nutrition is not one of the credits you can transfer in. But it's worth a try. Either way it's doable, don't let this hold you back!
