WGU prelicensure program

Anyone taking courses at WGU? I'm considering going there for my BSN. I have all the prereq's except for microbiology and taking the TEAS test. I plan to go into OR nursing as I am a scrub tech and a sterile processing tech. Thanks for your input.

I recently graduated from WGU with a degree in IT Management. I am now taking the prereqs to enroll in the WGU prelicensure program also! I probably won't be able to start until about a year from now, as I won't be able to make the OC/Pasadena October 1st deadline since I still need A&P1/2, Microbiology, and Lifespan/Human Development.

OP- you are aware that this program is not available to you unless you live in California, Indiana, Texas and (?) Utah, right?

If you ARE in those locations, you are a good candidate with your OR experience.

meanmaryjean is correct. Unless you are within 50 miles of the cohort location, you won't get into the program being a resident of Nevada.

incorrect according to the enrollment counselor. I have the option of moving the the location that accepts me

Exactly. You have to live within 50 miles of your clinical location meaning you will move to that location. If you told them you would not be moving then you would not be getting in.

I have been in my process with my WGU enrollment counselor here in So California. He said you have to live within 50 miles of the clinical location while doing the program. If you remain in NV and say you want to be in the program from NV, you won't get in. You need an address within 50 miles.

I live 3hrs away from my clinical rotation. They even gave me the option of choosing between 2 different sites. I chose the one closest which was 3hrs away.

I think they've changed that rule. It used to say that on their site now it says.

Students are responsible for the cost of travel to their clinical and lab site, therefore it is highly recommended that the student live within a 50-mile radius of the clinical site.

I live out of state way over the 50 mile mark and they knew that coming in and allowed it. I commute and stay at a hotel for clinicals and I'm more than half way through the program and it's worked for me. It's definitely more challenging than being local, but if you are determined you can make it work.

Awesome. I've wanted to do the WGU Prelicensure program! :)
