I haven't seen any forums about the upcoming application for next year's MSN-E program so I thought I'd start! I have a degree from University of Oregon in Human Physiology with experience as a Medical Scribe and in a variety of PT and Chiropractic settings! (Switched from PT/Kinesiology to Nursing!) I'm interested in the FNP track and am really excited about Western. Feel free to post any questions/stats/etc and join me in freaking out over apps! Are any of you attending any of the upcoming information sessions as well?
The EAOD was really low-key and not stressful at all. Expect to sit in on some presentations, walk over to the computer lab to finish your writing sample (super easy, if you went to college you'll do fine haha). Then there is lunch with faculty and other students..also really chill. After lunch we were given a tour of the facilities and then were free to go home.
Thanks for all your feedback! I'm just leaving it now. The day went pretty well I think. If anyone was concerned about the old curriculum... I think it may work out better for those who are interested in the FNP track. I've contacted people from previous cohorts (3 years ago) and they said majority were able to find a job within 1-2 months of taking the NCLEX. Just people who were picky about where they worked took 6 months to find one but everyone was still able. I think it also depends on the job outlook at the time, but it seems pretty possible to be able to find a position. With the current curriculum, you'll be able to get that year of experience during the MSNE program in order to apply for the FNP. So you can apply to the FNP right after the MSNE. That's my understanding at least.
Awesome! Let us know:) and good luck on your interview! They're all super nice and just want to make sure you're someone who will be committed to the program and to Nursing.
The Dean came in at one point and told us we are loved and that they want us to bloom and shine ahah that was EAOD day though haha but they're nice
Hi everyone. I had my formal interview today. It was very low pressure, and everyone there is very nice!
To answer some of the questions that have been asked, yes, you can go straight into the FNP program after the MSN-E as long as you have the required RN hours. This requires a special in-house application, and you apply for that about a year or so before you finish your MSN. There is only about a three week break between the MSN and the FNP, though, so you quite literally go straight into the FNP program.
I hope this helps!
