Western University MSN-E 2018

Nursing Students Post Graduate

Published

I haven't seen any forums about the upcoming application for next year's MSN-E program so I thought I'd start! I have a degree from University of Oregon in Human Physiology with experience as a Medical Scribe and in a variety of PT and Chiropractic settings! (Switched from PT/Kinesiology to Nursing!) I'm interested in the FNP track and am really excited about Western. Feel free to post any questions/stats/etc and join me in freaking out over apps! Are any of you attending any of the upcoming information sessions as well?

I know, I agree. The wait and uncertainty is truly agonizing.

Can I ask what your stats are? congratulations!

Thanks!

My undergrad GPA is a bit complicated due to length (my early grades were terrible). But in terms of recent work, I graduated from UC Davis as a microbio major with ~3.2 GPA. My prereqs is 3.76 GPA.

I think my experience was what helped me the most (if I were to take a guess). I was a clinical volunteer at a hospital for 2 years. I was president of a health professions club at Mt. SAC. I volunteered at a UCD health clinic serving the homeless in Sacramento and I did undergrad research at UCD medical center, each for a little over a year.

More recently, after graduation, I've been an EMT running mostly 911 calls for a little over 2 years and I am now currently the field supervisor at the same company.

These are my stats for my application. I'm sure there are a wide variety of stats/experiences/life stories in those who were accepted so I do believe they look at the application as a whole rather than just stats.

For those still waiting, when I called admissions in April, the lady said the most "movement" from the waitlist happens around June. So don't lose hope and hopefully you'll hear some good news soon.

Congrats, once again! And thank you for the encouragement :)

I remember them saying they don't have a waitlist ranking...does anyone know how they go about accepting those on the waitlist?

Haven't checked this post in awhile... anyone who was accepted figure out what they're going to do about housing yet? Anyone else looking for roommates ?

I read from previous threads that the waiting list is ranked, which is not disclosed. Someone from last year's application cycle commented: "When I went to the interview, one of the interviewers explained to me that the process on how they chose their next cohort is that every criterion gets a rating. Ex. GPA, personal statement, interview, etc. The total of those ratings gets added up at admissions and they offer going down that list."

Every cycle is different but it seems like most people forfeit their spot in June and July. However, I read that one student received an acceptance offer as late as the day before "Welcome Week" in August.

So there's still hope for us alternates! Lol.

Good to know. Thanks! A friend of mine was accepted two weeks before Welcome Week. She is now an RN in the Emergency Department (working on the second half of the EMSN). Good to know there's hope! :)

I signed a lease to live on campus! It's expensive but for the first year I just want the support of living right there at the school and then I'll move to a house with my boyfriend after the first year.

Hi everyone, I got admitted to my first choice school last week so I have withdrawn from this program. That should open up one more spot! Also, don't give up hope if you are on the waitlist because you never know what can happen! I got admitted to my program a day before orientation and exactly a week before school starts so hang in there! Best of luck on your nursing career everyone!

Congrats! Thanks for letting us know. Good luck to you.

Has anyone else from the alternate list heard anything yet?

I have been given acceptance into the program and will be accepting! I was on the alternate list. Good luck to everyone, hopefully some of you start to hear good news too!
