Western University MSN-E 2018

Published

I haven't seen any forums about the upcoming application for next year's MSN-E program so I thought I'd start! I have a degree from University of Oregon in Human Physiology with experience as a Medical Scribe and in a variety of PT and Chiropractic settings! (Switched from PT/Kinesiology to Nursing!) I'm interested in the FNP track and am really excited about Western. Feel free to post any questions/stats/etc and join me in freaking out over apps! Are any of you attending any of the upcoming information sessions as well?

Hi! I emailed Albert and was told that 75 alternates were offered, and typically 10-20 alternates are offered seats. He did not mention how many have accepted the offer.... Please let us know if anybody finds out more!

Update for ALTERNATES

I called the office and was told that the Alternates will be notified anywhere between April - August. The person I spoke to said that we are not categorized in any specific order. If we are not chosen we will be emailed in August. I hope that helps, if anyone has any additional info please post. Thanks :happy:

Hi! As someone mentioned, it kind of depends on how picky you are. I heard people were having trouble a few years back, and that's the reason for the new curriculum. But the most recent years it seems they haven't had too much of a problem. I've contacted people from other years, and they said 1-2 months generally. If you're not picky and start looking, some people were able to find it right after the NCLEX. Really picky people maybe 3-6 months, but for the most part everyone was able to get a pretty good job.

Hi! Sorry if this is a repeat question. I heard that the program beginning 2019 will only be 2 years versus 3. Does this mean they would receive the same degree and title as those who will be completing the 3 year program? Also, would the new 2 year program be cutting out the RN employment portion...so students would take be NCLEX when they are finished with the Masters?

I'm not entirely sure, but from my understanding it will be two years full time and you take the NCLEX after you earn your MSN. So I wouldn't think you'd be working at all during those two years. You'd be taking classes to prepare for the NCLEX and to get the masters in those two years. The current curriculum is 1.5 years fulltime preparing for the NCLEX and then another 1.5 years part time to finish your masters while working as an RN.

I will be turning down my spot for another program. I wish you all the best of luck and hope that this opens up a spot for someone else:)

Congratulations to everyone that was accepted to Western and other E-MSN programs. I am hoping to apply in the upcoming rotation, would anyone care to share their stats?

Hi All! Has anyone heard back from the waitlist yet? This wait is killing me.

STILL NOTHING. The wait is truly agonizing......lol @dearestem

I spoke with admissions yesterday and they informed me that no changes have been made yet. Hopefully we will hear something soon!

Thank you for the update! Keeping my fingers crossed for everyone! It's definitely not an easy process.

@ala004

I had a 3.3 undergrad GPA and a 4.0 prereq GPA. I took all the prereqs after undergrad so my last 60/90 was something like 3.75 making my overall something like 3.55.

I also job shadowed my parents who are both physicians and I worked as a CNA for a year. I also did lead a Health Promotion Team on campus during my prereqs during which I organized blood drives and heath fairs and other health events.

I was admitted to WesternU but was rejected from Azusa which is my first choice. I decided not to wait to see if Azusa will admit me to their Spring 2019 term and I have instead accepted Westerns offer.
