Well, I thought this day would never come, but the application period for Western U's MSN-E program starts a week from today!
I'm beyond nervous, as I've been working on this career change for over three years now. Every time I write a little of my personal statement I get a little shaky. This is so unlike me too, I'm usually cool as a cucumber.
Anyone else here planning to apply for 2012? Are you as nervous as I am?
Hey melman,
If you already have an appointment for a physical scheduled, you might as well ask your doctor to order a blood panel for you. On the WesternU website, there should be a list of documents that is required. Did Western email you with what is required in terms of titers, etc? If so, print out all the required medical information pages and bring them to your doctor when you go in for your visit. Ask him/her to fill out a blood work order form. If you have insurance, there is usually no charge for blood work. I had my doctor hold onto all forms until my results came back, had him fill it out, give me a copy of the lab work, then scanned and emailed everything to student health. It really is just an extra two steps to get everything done. If you want to expedite things and your appointment is somewhat early (before the lunch hour), just don't eat anything before your appointment, let your dr. know that you have fasted and see if they can send you somewhere to get your lab work done right after your physical.
I know in past threads, students have mentioned that there is and isn't a ranking system. I don't think anyone knows for sure but considering that today is already June 1st (and one person in the FB group let us know that she has declined her spot in our cohort), it may work to your benefit to just send at least your health records in.
Good luck and I'm sorry that they're taking so long to start pulling people off the alternates list =/
Hi everyone! I just joined this forum and started reading all the comments for the MSN-e program for Fall 2012...I was put on the alternate list and was wondering if anybody recieved any updates yet? I'm trying to stay positive but it's almost July...I hope everyones enjoying their summer so far :-)
Hey guys, I can't imagine how frustrating it is to have to wait so long.
Just FYI, we recently received an email from one of our admissions counselors and one person noted in our facebook group that the email was sent to 62 different individuals. I know the program plans for approx 60 individuals per cohort. I think everyone in the FB group has turned in all their required paperwork/transcripts/titers etc. plus background checks but many of us still are on "hold" on our student accounts which means the school is still going through everything. I'll ask on the FB group if any of the recent members were accepted off the waitlist and keep you guys updated for those of you who aren't in that group.

Thanks so much Jollie! I guess I'm just being a tad pessimistic. I figured that when clinicals start, hospitals want immunizations and physical clearances fresh, as in no more than 6 months. At least that's what I remember hearing in our interviews. Although I could be wrong. Unfortunately, WesternU is the only school I applied to this coming term. Still hoping for good news and you make a great point. I have a physical scheduled for next Tuesday and will ask about blood work, etc. Thanks again!
