Western University MSN-E Application Time!

Published

Well, I thought this day would never come, but the application period for Western U's MSN-E program starts a week from today!

I'm beyond nervous, as I've been working on this career change for over three years now. Every time I write a little of my personal statement I get a little shaky. This is so unlike me too, I'm usually cool as a cucumber.

Anyone else here planning to apply for 2012? Are you as nervous as I am?

Meee toooo melman!

i am currently a student at westerngraduating with my msn this may...yay!! i start the fnp portion this august andi just recently heard back from cgn regarding my acceptance. you should all behearing some time this month so try and be patient i know its hard.

in a response to location of residence my recommendation would be to live in claremont, upland, or rancho cucamonga. all three places are a tad bit more expensive butthey beat the orange county prices and traffic. they also provide some glamour to living in the ie (a bit safer too...lowercrime rate than pomona and ontario). i have been in rc for 3 years and althoughi don't want to stay here forever it sure has been a great place to live forschool and work.

good luck to all of you and i hope to see you around campus!!

Hi jollie! Thanks for all the info. Also, you mentioned that you are graduating with your MSN and are going to enter the FNP portion. Does that mean you are graduating with your MSN in Ambulatory Care and are starting an additional year (3 semesters) for FNP? I'm asking because I always thought that those who decide to go into FNP will obtain their MSN when they are done with the whole program (and for any concentration, for that matter)? Am I missing something? Or has something changed for us that was different for you guys? What cohort are you in btw? Thanks again for all your input.

very good question! i chose to switchtracks to ambulatory care in case i decided to take a year off before enteringthe fnp portion (pregnancy, life, more experience, ect.) this allowed me toobtain a nursing degree and in turn i became more valuable at my current job. idid have to re-apply to the post-msn fnp certification for admission this year.the only negative aspect in doing it this way is depending on how many studentloans one takes out during the msn degree is dependent on how much aid you willget for the fnp portion. i do not recommend doing this if you are 100% sure youwill continue forward with your fnp and/or you take the maximum aid out duringyour pre-licensure.

Happy Monday Everyone! Has anyone contacted Admissions regarding their alternate status? Just curious...we're coming close to the end of May and I'm surprised no one has heard back yet...well unless someone did hear back and they're just not part of this forum...... Thanks!

Hi melman! I haven't contacted them at all. I'm still so anxious to hear anything! I know that on the Facebook page a few of the accepted students have had a difficult time getting ahold of some of the advisors/ admissions staff...maybe that's also causing a hold up? Also, health clearances are due June 1. Maybe they're waiting to go through all of the alternates applications in one sitting? Who knows! :)

I haven't heard anything either! They said it could be up to the first week of classes.... which is a bit scary! I hope people start hearing soon so we can make some plans!

Is anyone getting their prematricilation stuff done (physical and vaccinations) just in case??

I feel for you guys on the waiting list :( I can't believe they havent called anyone yet!!!!

I cant believe it also, Maseca! I think it's just odd because it's so different from past years. The only thing I can make sense of is they want to wait to see if any more students will drop in the coming weeks....??

I haven't done any of the pre-matriculation stuff...people recommend getting it done just in case...have any of you guys done it??? I can't imagine them calling up some of the alternates a week before class starts and having to get all of this done!

I have been a westernU student for 3 years and I can tell you this is pretty typical...last minute everything. Best advice I can give you is get everything done in advanced just to be on the safe side. In the end it will be your responsibility regardless of what they did or did not tell you. In any event you need all that information (H&P, immunizations, titers, ect) for any nursing school...this way you have in ready in your own personal files. Sorry you guys haven't heard back yet. I was on an alternate list for cal state fullerton and they waited to tell me 2 weeks before school started...its not just western its just the nature of the beast:-(
