Western Kentucky University (WKU) - Starting ONLINE Lpn-RN Program!

Updated:   Published

I start this July with my LPN-RN transition course-work. Are any of my fellow classmates out there?

Also does anyone have any experience (good OR bad) with this program? Interested in hearing some feedback. I searched the old posts and only found one from a couple years ago with no bites on it!

Hoping to connect with someone who is currently doing this program, HAS done this program- or is going to be starting this program! Thank you all in advance!

Excited about getting my RN!

Hey bud! I just turned in everything needed to complete the application process today. I'm applying to enter Spring 18'. Hope you have a successful summer term!

I am applying to enter Fall 2018....any thoughts so far or any tips? What has been your experience...this is to either of you?

I love it! The school is really accommodating. I started this past January. I just completed the LPN to RN transition course.

I was able to clep skills and Mental health. So all I'm taking this Spring is Med/Surg I.

It's a great program for working LPNs. If you have any questions ask away!

Hi can you tell me what book you studied for the mental health CLEP and what skills they tested on? I'm starting in Summer 2018 and I want to try to test out also are all the classes distance leading online? Thank you.

I used Saunders NCLEX-RN review 7th ed to study for the mental health clep exam. I purchased a new book so I had access to the online content. I answered 25+ questions daily on the online mental health quiz section. I did this until I had every question memorized as well as the rationals.

To clep skills, they test you on 3-4 random skills of their choosing. The skills are: IV Insertion, IV d/c, Central Line Dressing Change, IVP, IV Piggy back, Sterile dressing change: Dry& Moist, Nasogastric tube insertion and removal, G-tube medication administration, Ostomy care, tracheostomy suctioning and dressing change.

All the classes are online except skills and clinical.

Good luck! I know two people who've been accepted to the Summer 2018 class.

I see from the zip code you're in the Ashland, TN area.... I will also be commuting from TN for clinical but I will be applying for Fall. I'm actually commuting for clinical from Chattanooga, TN.

One question Mercado37015 do you have a TN or KY nursing license? Is our TN license ok or did you need a KY license?

I live in Murfreesboro, TN. You do not need a KY license. You're technically a nursing student not an LPN. So no license necessary.

Side note. Chatt. Is going to be a heck of a commute. Murfreesboro is an hour and 45 minutes to bowling green. I know Chatt is an hour and half drive to Murfreesboro. One of my class mates stays at a hotel in bowling green the day before clinicals. They said is was pretty reasonably priced.

Good luck!

I just did the drive last week, took the HESI, 4 hours door to door (only due to time change, Chatt being an hour ahead). It's not bad. I commuted an hour and thirty mins for my LPN program daily for a year. Since they are using your license for credit and they requested a copy, I thought I might. Some schools require that states license. I also applied to Sneed State in AL and had to get an AL nursing license for their program. So different schools have different requirements. I was surprised at how reasonable the hotel rates were when I was there last week. My best friend lives in Scottsville and I have friends and relatives in Nashville(lived there for about 10 years). Seems very doable with my work schedule so far. LOL I just realized you responded Bishop LPN and I was talking to Mercado with the zip code lol. Thanks so much for all of your help. I have been impressed so far. I'm glad you like it so far!

I have a TN license and they are fine with that I think since both states are compact we may be allowed as students to go back and forth.

Nikapooh Thank you last question do you have to test out of both the class portion and clinical or Can I just test out of the class portion?
