Western Health Sciences - Direct Entry MSN - Fall 2013

Nursing Students Post Graduate

Published

I didn't see a thread, so I started one.

I am planning on applying this fall for the Direct Entry MSN program. Anyone else?

nerdy_bish-,

I am looking to stay semi-local yea but this is my third time applying to schools and I have yet to get accepted so I am feeling really discouraged so if the opportunity was out of state I would take it in a heartbeat. I have looked into all my community colleges but the problem is that all of them have a science pre-req gpa of a 3.0 minimum and I don't have that in my sciences because I got 3 B's and a C which is why I am having such a hard time getting in. It is heartbreaking to even think about having to take all my sciences over again so I am trying to get in with the grades I have now but clearly it isn't working out too well.

I received an acceptance email today around 3pm. I'm so happy- I literally jumped away from my desk at work and screamed! Really hoping you guys will get some good news as well!!!

Ahhhhh Ceci!!!! Congrats!!!!!! :)

cp07710,

Try looking into Clark Community College, it's in Vancouver, WA. They are starting to admit students 3 times a year, I think application is due june 15, sept. 15th & feb. 15th? You can check out their website- Nursing

cp0710,

don't be discourage, I know you will get in somewhere. However, if its something you really want, you might have to retake your classes. I am currently in the process of retaking classes. I retook a&p and chemistry last term. Now, I just have one C but that doesn't seem to matter, I have A's and B's in the rest of my pre-req, and a lot of schools don't care if you have experience in the health field, which is also a bummer. I hope you hear good news from some other schools soon, so you don't have to retake classes

Did anyone else on the alternate list hear back yet?

Did anyone else on the alternate list hear back yet?

No :(

While I am very happy for those that were on the alternate list that have now been accepted I have to say it is a bit disheartening for me...do any of the other alternates feel the same way? As more time passes and more people are accepted it's hard not to lose hope.

I feel the same way raminajulia. I am so happy for those accepted from the alternate list but it makes me feel like I have an even worse chance of getting in now. It is disheartening. I am trying not to fall back into the check my email every two seconds routine but it is difficult because I am so hoping that I am one of the people they take off the alternate list. Only time will tell, but personally I don't think it is looking good for us.

I'm kinda feeling it too. I'm focusing most of my energy on getting into the ABSN program at SMU and was offered a spot in the cohort that starts in 10 days!!! Kind of impossible from a logistics stand point. I'm hoping to get into the Fall cohort instead that way I'll know for sure I won't be getting pulled off the WL. Not quite what I'd wanted, but considering Western is 4 years versus all the other programs being 3, I'd finish my BSN in one year and be able to apply to the two year MSN programs that require a BSN and finish around the same time. Still, Western was my first choice and would be the most convenient. I don't like the idea of spending half the first year of being a newly wed living away from my new husband. I'd I really wish they'd give us our ranking, it would make life planning so much easier. Have to admit I'm pretty bewildered at not getting accepted. If figured if I ranked that high in the SMU program, then I'd be a lock for Western...Definitely wrong there.

Hey everyone,

Just want to offer my 2 cents advise. I was in the same spot last year and applied to Western but waitlisted. I re-applied this year and got early acceptance but turned down because I already enrolled at other program master entry program. Do not get discouraged by wait-list and rejection. If it is your dream to become a RN or NP, you will find your path to get to your dream. Keep in mind that we just never know how admission committee looks at the applications. My program director always told us that to have a back up plan. For all of you, just apply to more programs! In second time applying, I applied to ADN, ABSN, and master entry programs. I got accepted to most programs 2nd time, so keep your head up and move forward. In my opinion, Western has a good program but it is definitely the longest of all the master entry programs out there. The cost is pretty expensive comparing to others. Good luck everyone. :D

Thanks ALXiong,

It is very impressive that you went from being waitlisted last year to receiving an early acceptance this year!!! Wow!

If you don't mind me asking, what kind of changes did you make to your application that you felt helped make you such a strong applicant the second time? Any advice would be extremely appreciated.

ALXiong,

Thanks for the advise and sharing your story with us. May I ask what programs you applied too? I want to look into more masters program. My grandfather always had this saying -“There are many paths to the top of the mountain, but the view is always the same.” Like ALXiong said if t's out dream a RN or NP, will make it...its just a matter of taking a different path =)

And so begins another week of anticipation...
