Western Health Sciences - Direct Entry MSN - Fall 2013

Nursing Students Post Graduate

Published

I didn't see a thread, so I started one.

I am planning on applying this fall for the Direct Entry MSN program. Anyone else?

Hi everyone,

I've been following this thread for some time now but this is my first post.

I received an email today telling me that I've been accepted into the program. I figured some of you may want to know since it seems like there has been an abundance of "alternate" emails today. Sorry I know this may just raise more questions than answers but I thought you all might want to be informed as much as possible.

I will be turning the offer down since I got into another program. I really hope this opens up a spot for one of you! I know it's been such a stressful experience but keep hanging in there. Sending positive vibes your way!

Congratulations! :)

Hi Everyone,

I have also been following this thread closely and understand the frustration and anxiety that this whole process has caused all of us.

I did receive an email yesterday afternoon from Western letting me know that I have been accepted into the program. Unfortunately I don't have any additional details as to how many more they accepted as I am sure many of you are wondering. I hope this provides some information for everyone, though I am sure it also raises many questions.

I'm sure it must be very frustrating to be an alternate because there is so much uncertainty and I know for many it is hard to drop everything last minute if a spot opens up. I know everyone here will be a wonderful future healthcare provider and although we may all take different routes to get there, in time, we will all make it. I wish everyone the best and hope to meet many of you this Fall. Best of luck to everyone!

Now I have to wonder -- it sounds like the alternates that were accepted into the program last year weren't notified until July! We have already heard of several people declining their offers. So - now when will alternates be accepted??? This waiting game, in my opinion, is far worse than waiting for answer!

Congrats! And thank you for letting us know :) Things definitely seem less strange if Western sent out some acceptances too. Best of luck in the program you choose!

Thank you everyone! And Ceci81, you were in my interview group! I'm really bummed to hear you haven't been accepted yet. I wish you (and everyone else here) nothing but the best!

Hey Yanai! I thought that was you

So, I take it you got in to USD? Awesome! Huge congratulations. I'm so happy for you. Best of luck down there! And thanks for giving up your spot at Western :saint:

I'm bummed I haven't been accepted either, at this point I just hope they don't take too long to start accepting alternates as spots become available. I literally can't wait 'til July!

Well, I asked DM if there was any sort of ranking, I highly doubt she will respond with a yes, but it can't hurt to ask!!

Thanks Bees! Definitely doesn't hurt to ask-it would be so helpful in making other plans.

I emailed DM back after she emailed me my alternate letter. Here is what I said

"I have a few questions.

First, I know at the interview the presenter said that alternates are not "ranked" in any order. If this is the case, how then are students chosen from the alternate list when spaces become available? Second, will students on the alternate list be notified if they are NOT chosen to attend in the Fall? Lastly, if an alternate applies again next year will their application be considered differently because they have already applied and got on the alternate list?"

I am sure I am going to get some standard BS answer about how they do not rank the alternates and how they reevaluate everyone when spots come up blah blah blah. Frankly, I think that is a load of crap. If they have 60 alternates there is no way they reevaluate every single one of us for every spot that becomes available. There has to be some sort of system in place, even if it is just random draw, so that when a spot becomes available they know exactly who they are going to call. What I cannot understand is why they cannot tell us that process...we shall see what the response is.

Congrats to those accepted!

This was her response to me...

"I do not know how the admissions committee does the ranking. This information is kept confidential. With the competition being different every year, it is really hard to determine what the chances are of being selected for the class off of the alternate list.

I'm sorry I couldn't be much help."

Yeah, not much help at all! lol

Thanks BeesMama and cp0710 for trying to scoop some info!

I am on the same boat as everyone else. I'm more anxious than ever after getting that alternate letter. I haven't heard that many acceptances on this forum but it makes me wonder why there aren't more people accepted on this forum. Aren't they as curious as us?! :/ I kinda just want to know if all 60 seats have been filled up already considering that I've heard so a few people say they're denying their seats. Which leads me to wondering if some alternates were offered a seat already from the people that have rejected their acceptance offers. So many questions in my head ahhh!

cp0710, I have to agree. I think its a load of bull. I just don't get why they don't tell us. It does makes a difference to know what position you are in. If you are in the top 10 then you have a good chance verses being in the last 10. It would be easier to know where I stand so I can either accept it and move on or hold out the slim possibility of hope. It's the not knowing anything and wondering if you still continue to place your life on hold for a possibility that is the killer.

I know! It is awful. I really need to know so I can start planning ahead. I need to apply for jobs if I do not get in and as of now I don't want to apply to a bunch of jobs if I am just going to have to quit right when I start! It is so frustrating. It would be really helpful to know my chances of getting in so I can get going with my life lol. I cannot just sit around waiting until August to see if I got in or not. It will be too late by then.
