hi! i'm wondering of anyone have heard of western governor's university & southern california university of health sciences. wgu has bsn preclicensure program that enables experienced healthcare worker (ven cna) to have bsn distance learning program if you live in southern california. you have to have your preqreuisites done before u apply to their program (see their website). http://www.wgu.edu/online_health_pro...sing_licensure
it doesnt say specifically what subjects and how many units though. i spoke to a counselor, they just started the program in socal. he wanted me to apply and pay $50 to find out what i need, but why apply if i dont have any of the science classes yet? i was just getting info so i know if this is the path i should be going.
anyways, there's this other school that i found out that u may take your 4-unit science class in 4 weekends (saturday and sunday)! yes! it's located in southern california - whittier ca. go to www.integratedscienceprogram.com its through southern ca university of health sciences. i love it because i can keep working but it's expensive - about $2000 per 4 unit subject. but i guess as long as u achieve your goal sooner then it's alright. they are accredited by wasc. west coast university accepts them if you take classes from them. i guess do your homework and find out if the school u'r going to will accept it.

i'm planning to take anatomy and physiology i and ii and microbiology at scuhs starting this august.
I just completed my BSN from Western Governors (I had my associate degree), and was very happy with the program. The mentors and teachers were great and the classes were interesting.
I just applied to a NNP program at Suny stony Brook and am waiting to hear if I got accepted. I will admit I am a bit nervous about not having a GPA assigned to me as they stated they required a 3.0 to get into the NNP program but I am hoping my 3.8 from my associates will help.

Worried about that exact situation, did you get accepted to sunny brook? I would love to do WGU's RN-MSN but want it to transfer to UT for a post masters FNP program and I don't see that possible without a GPA?
I got in and just went to my orientation at Stony Brook. They accepted all of my credits with no problem from WGU. I think you will be fine as Stony Brook's NP programs are competitive to get into. One of my coworkers is currently doing the MSN at WGU and is happy with the program.

Yes, WGU accepts credits from accredited institutions whether online or face to face. When you apply, your transcripts are evaluated and you are notified of what credits are accepted.

Yes, I did. I replied to the email I received and called the advisor listed on the email. I have not heard anything back but I am still interested in the program.

Hello Dr. Harper, could you tell me are there any plans at Western Governor's University to have a nurse practitioner program either it be family NP, acute care NP, psych NP or any type of NP program? And when will it start? I called the phone number on the school website and the representatives have no idea. Plus, there's no email to contact. Could you please let me know? Thanks!
While there has been discussion about (and requests for) an NP program, at this time we do not have a projected start date that I am aware of. I'll do some checking and see if I can find out anything further!
So I stumbled across this thread and this is the first time Ive heard of Western Governors University.
I have a few questions hopefully someone can answer them...
Im trying to understand how this program works...is it self paced? quarterly? semesters? because it said on the website estimated completion time 2 years...
For the tuition...its 4,250 per 6 month term so for one year it would be 8500?
Is this program impact?
Is there still time to apply to the program for the Fall 2010?
BTW...I am a CNA and I do have a Bachelors Degree..
The next cohort in SoCal starts in September if one has all the pre and corequisites done and is accepted. They used to only deal with people who were done with prerequisites and ready to start the nursing component, but according to the website, you can now start if you have prerequisite courses yet to finish. You can find out more by contacting the school, then talking to a representative who will get back with you.
The pre-licensure program is a cohort program. That means you start with a group and progress with the group. You have scheduled learning labs and scheduled clinical intensives. You must stay up to date with your didactic materials to be successful in the lab and you must pass lab to progress to the clinical intensive. Your didactic is online so you can do it whenever is convenient with you - as long as you're keeping up and ready to go to lab as scheduled. You have a mentor who helps you stay on pace.
The school operates on 6 month terms instead of semesters, so you have calculated the annual tuition correctly. The nursing component of the program is 2 years long provided you have all your prerequesites.

I have a B.S. in Psychology/minor in Health, and was accepted into a 2nd degree/accelerated BSN program this past semester. I was dismissed unfortunately for failing one class (Nursing Process for Symptom Management). I passed pharmacology, pathophysiology and health assessment. I have taken AP I & II, Micro and Nutrition and made A's in all of those. I took Intro to Chemistry (not Biochemistry) and got a C. I was able to speak with a counselor just a few minutes ago and she said that if Biochem was the only one that I was missing, I MIGHT be able to be accepted but would have to take Biochem with WGU. What are the chances of getting in without Biochem? I live in Texas and the nursing schools here do not rely heavily on Chemistry, which is why I am nervous about having to take it, plus, like some of the other posters have stated, there are almost 2 years worth of prerequisites to take before I can register for Biochemistry with another school.
