Western Carolina University ABSN Fall 2021

Published

Hey everyone! I wanted to start this in case anyone else is planning on applying to WCU's ABSN program! I would love to connect with anyone that is going through the application process.

Hi everyone, current student here. The program has been great so far; our cohort is tight and we all work together. We've been getting a lot of hands-on experience in clinicals and labs, which is personally way more helpful than just learning about things in the cl***room. IDK how Carolina's ABSN program is, but I did my first degree at Carolina, and I can say that personally I find the smaller environment much more conducive to my learning. There are high expectations of you, but all the faculty and your cl***mates are there to help you succeed; it's very much a collaborative environment. It's intense, but I imagine that's the case with any ABSN program. Good luck with whatever you decide to do, y'all!

Thanks for the response! Do you mind sharing any info/tips about the interview process? Mine is next Wednesday the 23rd and I am insanely nervous and wanting to prepare myself in anyway I can.

Sorry for the delay! There was nothing exceptional about the interview... just look over some basic interview questions to prepare and think of thoughtful answers, and you'll be fine. And make sure you have a question or two prepared for the interviewers! Also make sure that you're in a quiet, private place and dress like you would for any other interview; I think I just wore a basic business casual-type blouse. Good luck!

no worries, you actually have perfect timing!! thank you so so much for the reply, that's a huge weight off my shoulders haha. hope the program is treating you well so far! hopefully I'll be joining you in the fall ??

Hi Lindsay Grace! I just had my interview for the Fall 2022 cohort yesterday and it wasn't too bad! Just be yourself and know your reasons for wanting to become a nurse. Also, be prepared to talk about direct experiences you had that led you down this path. Good luck, I'm sure you'll nail it! Hopefully, we'll be seeing each other this fall ?

@cnedwar3 if you can, let me know when you hear from them! my nerves got the best of me during the interview so I'm worried I may not have gotten it LOL but I am dying with anticipation to hear back.

I will! I'm eager to hear from them too! I'm sure you did great in your interview ? Hopefully we can hear back soon. I saw from this thread that the last class heard back in early March.

@cnedwar3 just got the email, I was waitlisted ? let me know how yours went! wishing you the best.

also @tarheel123 were you also waitlisted for the fall 2021 cohort? (assuming based off of this thread) if so, when did you end up finding out you got in?

Hi Lindsay, I was accepted. I really am hoping the best for you and that you get off that waitlist asap! I know that I don't know you but just from your interaction on this thread alone, I have a feeling that you are very dedicated to becoming a nurse and definitely deserve a seat in the fall cohort. Please stay positive and whatever happens, don't give up on your goal of becoming a nurse!

I hope to see another post from you soon with an update that you got a seat ?

@cnedwar3 congratulations, that is awesome! I really really appreciate you saying that. I hope I get off the waitlist too and am able to meet you this fall! I will definitely update this thread if things do end up working out. I'm not giving up hope yet :)

Hey there, yep, I sure was. There are actually quite a few of us from our cohort who were on the waitlist (I'm sure every cohort is different, though). I ended up finding out in the middle or end of April, but everyone finds out at different times. The waiting and ambiguity definitely does suck since you have to take the Summer classes to start in the fall, and you may not know until the end of the Summer if you're off the waitlist, theoretically. Honestly, I started looking at other options and filling out other applications once I was waitlisted; hopefully you do get off the waitlist, but having an alternative plan may be a good idea!

@tarheel123 that is awesome and gives me so much hope! I appreciate your response. I'm pretty high up on the waitlist so I'm just going to hope for the best but keep my expectations low and definitely look at other options. btw congrats for getting in off the waitlist, that is awesome ??
