Western Carolina University ABSN Fall 2021

Published

Hey everyone! I wanted to start this in case anyone else is planning on applying to WCU's ABSN program! I would love to connect with anyone that is going through the application process.

Hello Lefler,

I am so glad someone has started a thread on this! All the other threads are like from years ago. I am applying next month as well and am very nervous. How far are you with your pre-reqs and application?

Hi Lefler,

I just submitted my application.  Feeling super excited and nervous!

Hey Emily! I am actually planning on attending another school but best of luck to you! All of my pre-reqs are done and I am graduating with an exercise science degree in May!

Best of luck to you Lefler, that's awesome! Also I just recently graduated with a degree in Exercise Science, great choice of major!

@cevans7 I just recently submitted my application and am very nervous. I received the confirmation email last night that they received my application. It seems we will hear back anytime next week to see if we are eligible for an interview or not.

Hi everyone! I applied to WCU and I'm super excited to hear back. I will be deciding between a few different programs (assuming I get into them!). I would love to know more about why all of you chose to apply to WCU! For my part, it's super convenient and I like that the cohort will be small. What good things do you know about the program? Have you heard anything about the quality of instruction and the school culture and atmosphere? Do they have a philosophy of valuing diversity? Will it be a good foundation for those wanting to pursue a Master's degree? It's surprisingly hard to find info about WCU nursing online. It seems to have a good reputation in Asheville, although posts here from a decade ago were pretty negative. Would love to hear your thoughts...

Hi @nurse10974! I am applying to this program and 2 others in NC. This is my first time applying to WCU and I chose it because of the, quality and credentials of faculty, high NCLEX pass rate, tuition cost, and accreditation. Also the fact that it is in NC was a huge factor for me as well. I totally agree that there is not a lot of recent info about the program as I tried to find more recent feedback. What other programs are you looking at either in NC or out of state?

I applied to Duke and Chapel Hill. I did get in to CH, but I decided that a Fall 2021 start date will be better for my family than starting in May. So it will be down to WCU and Duke, and even if I do get into Duke, I don't think I'll be able to afford it. The WCU program sounds great from all that I've heard recently, I just wish I knew more...the other programs are super easy to research, in comparison!

That's a huge accomplishment getting into CH! My old college roommate is currently in that program right now. If I don't get into WCU, then I am planning on applying to CH and ECU. I knew Duke would be way too expensive for me even though its a great program. I also thought about applying to the tradition BSN program at WCU but they want your SAT/ACT score from HS which I am not willing to go back and retrieve.

Yeah, that makes sense. Good luck with everything!! If we both end up at WCU, I will look forward to meeting you ?

Has anybody received an update about Fall 2021 admission? I received a couple emails from WCU but nothing definitive.

@FutureMurse I haven't heard anything new yet.
