Western Carolina University ABSN Fall 2021

Published

Hey everyone! I wanted to start this in case anyone else is planning on applying to WCU's ABSN program! I would love to connect with anyone that is going through the application process.

@cnedwar3 Congratulations! I was recently accepted into the program as well. Have you been able to register for the Summer classes? Its been radio silence since I emailed my acceptance letter.

@Lindsay Grace I didn't even make it to the waitlist last year and was simply denied. It was only after reapplying a year later that I finally got in. You got this!

Hey there, yep, I sure was. There are actually quite a few of us from our cohort who were on the waitlist (I'm sure every cohort is different, though). I ended up finding out in the middle or end of April, but everyone finds out at different times. The waiting and ambiguity definitely does suck since you have to take the Summer classes to start in the fall, and you may not know until the end of the Summer if you're off the waitlist, theoretically. Honestly, I started looking at other options and filling out other applications once I was waitlisted; hopefully you do get off the waitlist, but having an alternative plan may be a good idea!

Hi tarheel123! I was recently accepted into WCU's ABSN fall 2022 cohort and have found the information you have already posted super helpful in understanding the next steps! I was wondering, though, if you could let me know how the Summer classes are delivered? I know they are online, but I was wondering if they meet synchronously over a platform like Zoom or if they are 100% online, kinda work at your own pace with specified due dates and deadlines for assignments/projects/exams/etc?

Thank you!

Hi! Things are constantly evolving in the program, so I'm not exactly sure if it will look the same as it did last Summer, but from what I remember there were just due dates for different assignments, etc. that you complete at your own pace, to a degree. There is so much to do that you'll probably have to do some work every day, so you'll most likely follow the schedule pretty closely, as there's not a lot of flexibility. You can do it though! Just stay focused. I recommend making a GroupMe or something similar with your cohort (you'll find their info sometime soon) to stay in touch and help each other over the Summer. We had some study sessions which were helpful, and collaborative study guides. And there will probably be a patho tutor available for you over the Summer -- use them!

Thank you so much for letting me know! I am hoping they will send more information out soon in the coming weeks!

@sarpar6366 Congrats on your acceptance! ? btw - have you had a chance to get enrolled in the Summer classes yet? I've reached out to an advisor to get registered but I haven't heard back.

Hi @HikingwithTiff! Congratulations on your acceptance! I look forward to meeting you in the fall. I have not been able to register for Summer classes yet, but the director of the program did say that an email with more information will be sent to us soon. Like you, I am very eager to hear what our next steps are.

I have not, but I have not paid the $300 deposit to the school or sent in my immunization records, which I think are some of the next steps! Hopefully we will hear back soon!

Also, congrats to everyone else who has been accepted!

not sure if any of y'all are having issues getting your immunization records or registering, but if you are not looking to get those asap (like me) you can call health services and they will take the immunization hold off for the Summer since we are only registering for online classes! just did this and it was sooo easy. see you guys virtually this Summer and in person this fall! I'm so excited :)

I did get the immunization records hold removed; however, I have another one for "orientation registration." Has anyone else had that show up for them and gotten it successfully removed? I called the advising office a few days ago and they said they would email someone who was doing it for the people in our program, but it hasn't disappeared yet so I still can't register ?

Thanks for the tip @Lindsay Grace. Yes, @sarpar6366, I called the WCU advising office and they transferred me to the nursing advisor. She was able to get that off for me so that I could register. Her name is (MODERATOR EDIT OF NAME) and her number is (MODERATOR EDIT OF PHONE NUMBER). She also emailed me my alt pin since we need that to begin registration as well.
