Hello everyone!I am seriously having a hard time choosing between an expensive private school that you can get into fast and more affordable community colleges but with long waiting lists for an lpn to rn bridge program. What is everyone's opinion? Do you think private schools are worth all the money or should I just get on waiting lists for 1-3 years and work while I'm waiting? I need to make a decision quick, so please help! Thank you!Ms. Indecisive

I would choose whatever you feel comfortable with. I just talked to an admissions represenative (I hope I spelled that right LOL) from WestCoast University and if I could do it right now I would go there now but unfortunatley I cannot because I need to work on my math they require you to pass the HESI with an 80% which I can do but not until I improve my math!!! Community College's are great and less expensive but the waiting is riduclious!!!! I already took out student loans for school so I want to pay them off or get almost payed off before I go to WestCoast University. I want to take their BSN Program the BSN Program that WestCoast University offers only requires you pass the HESI with an 80%. They do offer an LPN to RN bridge Program I would just go to both WestCoast University & your local Community College & talk to their admissions represenative and see what both schools offer, when you would start, cost, etc. & then sit down and decide which schools offers what you want now even if you choose the expensive one in the long run it may be worth it. I am really sorry about the long post I hope it helps in some way and I wish you lots of luck ok, keep me posted ok!!!!

To Ms. Indecisive, for me waiting 4 years wasn't an option. That is why I choose to go to WCU. I start at the Anaheim campus in September. I do like the fact that the price for the program is all inclusive. It covers everything from tution to books to extra tutoring to even uniforms. For me, not having to chase all over town to get these things is great. Hope this helped answer your questions.

I don't know how much the BSN program is but the ASN program is just a little under $64,000.00. Thank God for student loans.

OMG!!!! are you serious $64,000 for an ASN Program from WCU? I don't think I even want to know what a BSN Program will cost I thought there BSN might be $25,000 to $30,000 but I guess I was wrong man I don't think I can go there because it's just way to much I am still going to go for my RN degree but I may have to go ahead and take my CC pre-reques and be put on there RN wait list. Thanks for your help.

$22,000 will barely get you a BSN at a state school let alone private. Private schools run $20,000-$30,000 as the student pays for all costs of the course plus profit for the school.

hey u should get all ur prerequisites done at ur cc...then go to west coast they will give u credit for the classes u have..my husband is there now...it will deflect the cost...(my husband went down from 60g-40) the BSN u can always finish later...im an rn now and at my job it pays like one dollar more if u are a new grad RN with a BSN versus an ADN...u can get ur bsn at a cheaper school like cal state dominguez hills or another cal state....theres not much of a difference when working as a BSN or ADN nurse on the floor...no one at my work goes....oh ur only an ADN nurse not a BSN nurse so you dont know as much...what counts is experience and common sense when working...a lot of my co-workers are working on their BSN now...its just a bunch of research papers...i call it BS-N or ******** nursing...haha...unless u wanna go into management soon...then get ur BSN quickly!

I'm looking into West Coast too. I have barely any pre-reqs... and I like that they include the pre-reqs! I went to Concorde for my LVN so I'm used to the private school way of doing things. And I like it. I sent in a request for info on the LVN to RN program in Anaheim tonight. So, we'll see what they have to say when I talk to them.

My view on the costs of private school.... if I had the opportunity to go to a private 4-year, the cost would equal about the same. Haha thats how I justify it.

You went to Concorde for their LVN Program how was it? if you don't mind me asking. I am thinking of going there or to American Career College for their LVN Program I just have to wait to finish at University of Phoenix so I can apply for FAFSA there. Any information or advice you can give would be greatly appreciated, thanks.:D:bowingpur:bow:

Which campus are you looking at? I've heard that ACC is a little more teach yourself kind of program. I went to the Garden Grove campus. The leadership there is a little over the top. But if you can get passed all that, its a decent program. They have one of the highest NCLEX pass rates around, and they do a really good job preparing you for boards. Let me know if you decide to do it, I'll give you lots of pointers :)

Hi! Im a current student in WCU, ADN program. I'm in Term 8 and I can't wait to be done in 8 weeks :-) Obviously, my personal choice is to attend a private school where I could start immediately. It definitely costs more than a community college, it as an investment. It's just like buying a luxury car. However, with education you lay the foundation for your future. It can bring stability to your finances as well.

When I started, most of my co-workers were saying that it's too much for an ADN program. They'd rather wait and go to the community colleges. I'm almost done, and the same co-workers are still waiting to get into the RN program. Some of them actually just started term 1 as I write here. Procrastination just delayed them from reaching their goal. As my dad would tell me,"Don't wait for things to happen. Make it happen."

Also, my husband's cousins completed their pre-requisites about two years ago. They're good students but they still haven't been lucky enough to be drawn in the admissions lottery. While waiting, they opted to attend the VN program. They already finished their VN program and still they're waiting. Now, they're considering to attend WCU after they pass their boards.

WCU currently has the BSN program with no LVN required. I hope my post helps you out. Just to share,I'm a full-time mom, student, and wife. I still worked full-time, it is only mid-term 7 and the entire term 8 where one would really need to cut off time from work. When you really want something and you work towards it, your dreams will be attainable.Goodluck and I hope my post helps you out.
