West Penn School of Nursing?

U.S.A. Pennsylvania

Has anyone attended the western Pennsylvania School of Nursing? If so id like to know if you liked it and why and would you recommend it to me as a male?

Ya, that makes me sad to hear too.... But oh well I'm sure if things were that bad they wouldn't be accepting applications. And i think that you not having your micro and A&P's isn't a big deal because they work them into the curriculum, and a girl I work with went to West Penn and did the program with all the Clarion classes that they have in in like she followed the curriculum and said it was hard but she did it and passes her NCLEX on the 1st time and she graduated like 1-2 years ago. And girl it's not a sign that you shouldn't start...you'll get it and we'll be nursing buddies..LOL and you don't even have to be certified to work at my job. That's why they have the "student" title attached to me. It's really good experience I love it even though I generally work with geriatrics but it's fun nontheless. You should look into it if you wanted to. And yes saturday does need to get here NOW!!! I'm just excited because like my mom knew everything about CCAC's program..... And know it's like something new and exciting!!!

you know what, i actually will look into the student nurse asssistant thing, it sounds like i'd enjoy that more than the job i have now. lol. thanks for all your kind words. it's nice to hear it from someone who's trying to get into the same program....i'm so excited. i really hope things work out. their website freakin' says MAY15!!!! for the application deadline, i'm telling you lol I'm gonna print it up and ask about it on Saturday if I can, I don't know. maybe I can talk to someone about how desperately I want this and maybe that'll show them. lol then we can be nursing buddies yayyy!

LOL ya and mayb be even bring a copy of your midterm grade in that class..... and that'll show them that you have an A and that your gonna pass.....I'm so excited for saturday!!! I just want to get in there and see it i mean i pass it almost everyday bc of work and where my fiance works it's like a 3 min walk... You never said are you gonna live there or commute? It seeems awesome to live there like it's a really nice option....And YES we will both GET IN for Fall 2010 and be nursing buddies!!!.... and ya the website does say May 15th bc when i called the 1st time and said that to jackie the women who always answers the phone she said that the application on the web is an old one and all this stuff bc you had/have to send in $75 and the website says $25 so that's an old website or something. But I"m just so happy I found someone in my same situation and that like I'll have a nursing buddy WHEN we get accepted bc we both will!!:yeah: I was so nervous about that bc at CCAC like you meet people in your different Pre req's that are going to nursing same as you... so there were a few of us that took the test and all and I was the only one who didn't pass..:( oh well WEST Penn bound I go!!!:D

hahaha yeah, I'm gonna try like hell to see what I can do. My intention is to live there, bring my car, and quit working while I'm in school. I've been saving up and trying to pay my bills off before I go, and it'd be really nice to not have to work while in nursing school. Eventually I'll try to get a job on the weekends somewhere down there....But I live like a half an hour away and I'm still living with my dad so I basically just want the oppurtunity to be on my own a little bit. I never went away to college, so going away to nursing school would be absolutely amazing. This school has everything that I want. I finally got to talk to my mom about the Chem situation, and she said that we just won't panic until someone tells me straight to my face that it's IMPOSSIBLE for me to get in. Who knows, maybe they'll really like me, or my essays, or something. I hope so! This is my dream school I've wanted to live closer to Pittsburgh forever and I just want this so so bad! And I'm so excited for Saturday I can't even contain myself! I hope we can look at the dorms and the classrooms and see the mannequins and stuff too omg. so fun. yay!!! Saturdayyyyy:D

You had to write an essay?? Lol all I wrote was the answers to the little questions? And I'm sure you'll get in bc you can always say/show them the website and that can be your fight... I went away for college it's not all it's cracked up to be but it's fun nontheless. See I'm on my own now with my fiance and what not it's fun, and thankfully I won't have to work much while I"m in school (just mayb on the weekends to get some $ to help for the wedding a lil).... bc he has an amazing job as a histologist to support us:) gotta luv him! LOL.... but ya what you have planned sounds great and then we always have my apartment to come to to study if your dorm is to loud bc like i've said before i like 5 mins away not even:) hehe.... And West Penn is close to so many like little job places like theres giant eagle and some little kinda fast food well not really fast food but like chipotle and qdoba thre's a get go so i'm sure you'll find something and I used to work at the giant eagle down there so if you need a reference :) lol.... I just want to be a nurse so much I really hope that I/ We get in because this school looks amazing online and the people seem like they really want to help and want you to pass... and that's another huge thing if your teacher/instructors want you to pass you will.. I've found that if insctuctors are willing and helpful and actually like and want their students to pass they will....But are you just going by urself satuday? I'm bringing my Mother :) just because I didn't want to go by myself and what not but now I won't be by myself:) yay I just really want to go here and I hope saturaday I can talk to someone about this study ATI test and see how it was for them. I've been doing the reading section today and it seems easy I got a 45/50 on the practice test but idk I just wanna hear what others say/think about it:) OH Saturday come now please!!!!

Sara,

hey it was good to meeeet you today.. I really like it there i hope i get in :) did you talk to someone about your chem class, if so what was the outcome? I can't find you on FB so you can loook me up it's alyson gamble:)

Hey! My name is Kayla and I applied at West Penn's nursing program, had an interview, took the TEAS test, and got accepted into the Fall 2010 class:) I was also accepted into St. Margarets program but my mom is selling the house and moving in with her fiance so the dorms seem like a pretty good plan to me! I heard great things about West Penns program!! I am so excited but definitly a little nervous! I was reading over both of your posts and just wanted to comment on a few things...The whole getting chemistry out of the way before the deadline comes...you can send in your transcripts way ahead of time and send a copy of your current chemistry course showing that you are currently enrolled in that class and they will "accept you upon contingency". I am taking A&p 2 this semester and that is exactly what I did. It basically means that if you fail the course, they can take your acceptance letter back. I took all my pre-reqs except for logic and microbiology so I am hoping not to have as much of a workload. I didnt take the TEAS test at West Penn but West Penn's admission criteria is Individual adjusted score of 70% or higher and it isnt that hard to get higher than a 70%!! No worries, good luck with it!! Look foward to meeting you guys!!

Hi Kayla,

I'm so nervous also about getting in for fall 2010. everythings done except my TEAS test, which I take April 17th ;/. And I had a question about your post that I didn't quite understand. Did you say that it is or isn't hard to get a 70% on the test? Also what book if any did you use? I've purchased the ATI book from the website but have been reading posts that the science section in the ATI book isn't helpful? And the science is the part I'm worried about most. Any suggestions or helpful tips you could tell about the test would be greatly appericated

It is not hard to get a 70% or above on the exam. I also ordered an ATI book online to help me study and I bombed the science portion the first time I took it for UPMC St. Margaret, I didnt pass for St. Margarets the first time but it was a good enough grade for West Penn. Make sure you read the actual science sections instead of just taking the practice exams in the book. I also looked a few things up online. Its so hard to study for science because it is such a broad topic. When I went to take the test for my second time at St. Margarets, the questions were the exact same!! I was a little ****** off haha but I got like 80% and 90% in the science section. Good luck! Let me know if you have any other questions! Did you turn in your application already? and transcripts?

Kayla,

Ya my transcripts are getting mailed to them I called my highschool and I go to CCAC so there mailing them to West Penn and my application is also already turned in. I just have to mail my reference letters and then take the TEAS test on the 17th which I'm super nervous about!:uhoh3: Like i said before I bought the book and am now just gonna look at the science stuff alot like you said to... hopefully I'll pass the 1st time.:D Like you I'm almost done with my pre-req's I'm taking ap 2 this summer hopefully and nurtition but besides that I'm in micro now and have taken psych and english and ap 1 and everything else expect ethics and logic and sociology. But I figure i'll take those with west penn. Are you planning on living in the dorms? I'm not i live with my fiance like 5 mins away from west penn:) so it works out nicely:)

oh fun!! Yeah I was stressing out about the TEAS test but it was not as bad as I thought!! Well thats super convienent to be living right by the hospital! Yes, I am going to be living in the dorms...my mom is selling the house that we live in up here in Cranberry Township and moving in with her fiance in Indiana right by IUP so im basically getting the boot. haha. The only problem I run into is leaving the dorms during the summer but It'll all work out hopefully. I spent like hours trying to find a facebook group for the 2010 class this year haha but they didnt have anything up and then i ran into this website...its kinda cool haha :)

Oh wow that sucks... I almost went to IUP for culinary school. And i know where cranberry is:) it's nice there...And I'm sure that everything will work out for the summer....Anything you'd say to study more for on the TEAS test??.. I'm super nervous about taking it AHH!!! lol...
