West Penn School of Nursing?

U.S.A. Pennsylvania

Has anyone attended the western Pennsylvania School of Nursing? If so id like to know if you liked it and why and would you recommend it to me as a male?

You get the most time for the "grammer" or english section...you need to be quick with math because thats the only section where they definitly do not give you enough time...reading is super easy!! and if science is your weakness, study the most for that. But my first time taking the test I tried doing extremely well in the other subjects so I could slack off a little bit in science and I did horrible in science and I passed for West Penn, but not for St. Margarets. The only reason I took it a second time was to try and get accepted into St. Margarets even though I am not going to be going there. It just made me feel a little better because I was super bumbed that I didnt pass it for their school the first time. I didnt start studying until about a week or 2 before the test so Im sure you will be fine!!!

Ya I've been studying for about 2-3 weeks now and I'm on spring break next week so i'm gonna study LOTS then. I just hope I pass I missed CCAC's entrance exam by a point in the science section, that's because they look at your scores in math, science, and reading so I missed the science by 1. So I'm loving that West Penn only looks at the composite or total score thing or whatever it is called. But I'm gonna think positive. When you got your acceptance letter was it a big envelope or did it just look like a regular piece of mail? I'm just wondering what to expect!...:)

Being that this is the first time the WPH SON is using the entrance exam do you think that the actual test score number will be a make or break issue for those applying? I'm curious if they would simply look at that as a part of the entire application.

I'm not sure.. That's a good question... I'd call and ask... In fact I think I'm gonna do that tomorrow.

I am almost positive that you HAVE to pass it to even be looked at. Atleast that is how it is with St. Margarets when I took it and that is also why they offer to take it a second time. If that was the case, im sure they would only give applicants one shot. They say that the TEAS test is the "level of knowledge" that the applicant should already know before becomming a nurse. It wouldnt hurt to ask though!!

I really don't have a problem with the exam and when I had ordered my test book for the TEAS I also ordered the two practice online exams. I took the first one prior to studying and scored a 80% but I'm a little taken back by the extent of the natural sciences. General biology... fine. Metric to english calculations... fine. Defining the tectonic plates... not so much! I'll be taking it for real on the 14th as well but I'm afraid of stumbling on things that belong on Jeopardy and not a nursing entrance exam.

haha. I did not order the online practice assessments but I did order the book. If you got an 80% then no worries. I recieved an acceptance letter and then after sending in the 95$ non-refundable check holding my place in the class, I got a huge packet from them in the mail about insurance, uniforms, dorms, checklists for everything, orientation before classes, CPR certification (which I am going to try and get done earlier and not do it through their CPR class), information about Clarion, physical exams, etc. Bunch of papers that they give you to help remember dates. I am so excited though!! I can not wait to be done with A&P 2, send in my transcripts again and get started!! I sent in the 95$ check in right away so I could get the papers and get started

Kayla,

Ya I'm sending in my letters today and taking the TEAS on the 17TH!!! Ahhh I"m just hoiping that I get in then me u n sara can be study buddies...LoL.... I'm still kinda nervous.. Did you have an interview like everyone else? If so, what did they ask and how'd you respond?

BTW - For anyone that has taken the tour (I was just there last weekend), I found the STAR Center to be very impressive! A half a dozen folks squeezed into the back of that pseudo-ambulance was worth the price of admission alone. Seriously though, it seems like an amazing resource to have while enrolled there.

Alyson, I know thatd be so fun!! and yes I had an interview there, I was more nervous for the interview than I was for the TEAS test. I think I got asked every question possible haha but it wasnt so bad. Questions like, why do you want to be a nurse, why west penn, what will you change about your life whenever you get accepted, etc.

Yeah! that Star center does sound pretty cool! I did not go to the open house last weekend but look foward to seeing it!

Ya I'm nervous!!! I just want to pass the TEAS test and get it!!!! I just want this so bad and I hope that they see that and I get in!!! Ahhh lol oh well I'll just be studying my a** off till then!
