I was wondering if anyone recently interviewed/ got hired at the West LA VA Medical Center. How long (from application to official offer) did the process take you?

I am not sure if it is the same one or not because I was under the impression there was only one VA in LA. I applied for a med surg position in the Greater Los Angeles VA back in January and got called for an interview about 10 days after closing. From what I know now and from working at another VA when I was an LVN, it's a hit and miss. Positions are posted ALL VA wide on usajobs.

A long time ago (2005) when I was attending an LVN program in Van Nuys, one of my classmates was a CNA at the VA Hospital in West LA. If I recall correctly, he mentioned that the process from application to job offer took a little over six months. He was an air force vet, so he says he received preference in the hiring process.

Yes, the range seems to vary. My first time, (when the va was still doing paper apps) in 2007, I applied for the lvn position and didnt get a call for an interview until 8 months later. I had long since forgotten about it but I gladly accepted the interview and remember working within 1 month of interview. Now however, they only post for positions they need with short open periods or post continuous for positions that may have higher turn overs. Those I am guessing, are "you never know type of thing." The ones with short open periods have a greater chance of having a quicker selection and start waits because they truly have a vacancy. (Even so, I hear funding can be terminated and no longer capable of hiring for that position) The position I applied for was a short period posting so I am sure that is why they started calling rather quickly for interviews. Also, the VA does give veterans a 5 point preference, which I am sure that it helped me push through for an interview.

I worked at the VA on a contract, not as staff. I think the quickest way to get a job there is to find an agency that does government contracts. It took me about 2 weeks to go through the vet pro credentialing process due to me going through an agency. While you are there on contract network and start applying for positions right away. Others that I knew said the process took months.
